A devastating fire broke out in Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Dasmesh Nagar near the Gill road today early morning causing a large scale damage to the religious place.

PUDA’s demand of security fee flayed

The president of the Ramlila Dasehra Committee, Urban Estate, Mr Raj Garg, condemned the Punjab Urban Development Authority for charging security fee of Rs 10,000 and licensing fee of Rs 500 per day for celebrating Ramlila and Dasehra festivals on the PUDA land.

Overbridge completion delayed
Khanna, September 19
The delay in the completion of a railway overbridge being constructed at Samrala level crossing, is causing a lot of inconvenience among villagers of Khanna, Samrala, Machhiwara and surrounding 200 villages as the contractor had not as yet constructed any approach road for the commuters.

Activists of the Punjab Peace Council today burnt effigies of the SHSAD, Mr Gurcharan Singh Tohra, and former president of the SGPC, Ms Jagir Kaur, to lodge their protest against derogatory and objectionable references against former Chief Minister Beant Singh who had laid down his life while fighting a battle against terrorism in Punjab.

Theft in FCI godown
Ahmedgarh, September 19
A theft of about 90 bags of rice weighing 75 kg each from the FCI godowns adjoining the ‘gaushala’ near the railway lines has come to light early this morning. A visit to the godown revealed that the bags had been carted away through a ventilator about two feet above its floor. 

Inter-state gang of thieves busted
Khanna, September 19
The police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of thieves and arrested six members of the gang here yesterday.

Couple commit suicide
Samrala, September 19
Mr Sukhvinder Singh, (30), son of Himmat Singh, a resident of Chak Jatana village, about 10 km from here, along with his wife, Kuljeet Kaur, allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison (sulphas tablets) yesterday.

Man accuses wife of elopement
Sahnewal, September 19
Karnail Singh of Mangli Uchi village has alleged that his wife had eloped with a Nepali. A case was registered under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC at the Sahnewal police station on Wednesday.
