Life term for killing wife, daughter

Ludhiana, September 7
Ajmer Singh (53) of Burj Littan village has been sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment on the charge of killing his wife and a daughter (17) mercilessly by inflicting iron-rod blows on their heads. Fine of Rs 10,000 has also been imposed upon the accused.

Delivering the verdict, Mr S.M.S. Mahal, Additional Sessions Judge, Ludhiana, held that prosecution has successfully proved with credible convincing evidence that accused committed murder of his wife Mohinder Kaur, as well as of his daughter Jasbir Kaur, on May 13, 2001, in Burj Littan village falling under Sudhar police station.

In this case, son of the accused was the eye-witness, who deposed in the witness box that it was his father who killed his sister and mother and his evidence played an important role in conviction.

Winning hearts with golden voice

Jaswinder has been gifted with a golden voice and has been singing from the time when he was in Class VII. Charkha Roye Zaro Zar, Loki Bhul Gaye sabhyachar the Jaswinder sings with elan is a hit song on ETC channel, Alpha, DD Punjabi and Lashkara channels. The audience felt that he would become a good singer and touch the zenith of glory. The song depicts the loss of values in villages.

Jaswinder has learnt music the hard way. He visited gurdwaras, met pirs and fakirs and learnt traditional music from them. When in Class XII first position in Sufi singing competition. He has also bagged many prizes in ‘Vaar competition’. Vaar songs depict the valour of brave heroes of past.

As a student of Government College for Men, he got a lot of opportunities to participate in many inter-college and youth festivals. He was sent for all-India cultural competition and won a prize there. His good voice got him selected for Jalandhar Doordarshan where his songs were beamed regularly.

He took part in a popular show ‘Kaaf Shar’ on Lashkara channel.

Unfortunately, he could not get any formal training and has modulated his voice by self practice. He has great faith in God and in his own hardwork and in positive that one day he will be able to top the charts.

He is very grateful to the staff of government college and his classmates who helped him to grow as a singer. Many writers like Gurbhajan Gill, Sardar Jagdev Singh Jassowal, Dr Nirmal Jaura, Dr Lakhvinder Johal, Dr Prithipal Sohi, Harminder Kaur Grewal and Dr Surjit Patar and Kulwant Jagraon too helped him to grow. Hans Raj Hans, the state gayak, also encouraged his talent and has motivated him to sing good meaningful songs.
