DMCH surgeon invited to Japan Dr Kuldip Singh, consultant surgeon, DMCH, has been invited to the Congress of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia 2002 (ELSA) to be held in Tokyo from September 18 to 21. He is one of the four panellists who will deliver lectures on various aspects of laparoscopic surgery in acute and emergency situations. The topic of his talk is “present scenario of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in acute gall bladder disease”. Besides this, he will also be chairing two scientific and video sessions. Dr Kuldip Singh is the honorary secretary of the Indian Association of Laparoscopic Surgery and has achieved recognition in the field in India and abroad. He is one of the pioneer laparoscopic surgeons and has a vast experience of difficult gall bladder surgery. He has innovated his novel technique to deal with the difficult situations which has also been acknowledged and appreciated abroad. Traditionally, the acute gall bladder stone disease used to be managed conservatively with medicines and surgery was undertaken after three to four weeks. But, with the advancement of technique and experience, patients with acute pain are taken up immediately for surgery. He says it is safe to do surgery with in 48 hours of acute pain after which it becomes more risky and dangerous. He has also organised a number of training workshops and delivered guest lectures on the topic at national and international conferences. He says there is a lot of difference between gall bladder cases in developing countries and those in developed countries. “We have to deal with more difficult cases due to ignorance and delay in the treatment, whereas in developed countries when a patient gets pain he or she is immediately diagnosed and subjected to surgery in a majority of cases.” TNS |
