Indo-USAID joint project  for slum development

The two-year action plan, under the Indo-USAID joint project, aimed at improving access of services to urban poor in the city is all set to be implemented. The preliminary work of identification, survey, mapping and creating a data base has been done, said Mr Billy Corbett of the City Alliance and team leader of a USAID group and its Indian partners, who were here to interact with the top brass of the Municipal Corporation.

32 bottles of liquor seized; 3 held
Sahnewal, September 4
The Sahnewal police has seized 32 bottles of illicit liquor and registered cases under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act against three persons. It seized 15 bottles of liquor from a man called Bablu Kumar of Uttar Pradesh, who was caught at a Ramgarh village checkpoint.

Teachers ignored for awards protest

The State Awardee Teachers Union of Punjab has criticised the state Education Department for not considering the names of four teachers, recommended by a selection committee of Sangrur district, for the state and national awards to be given on Teachers Day on September 5.

Murder accused acquitted
Ludhiana, September 4
Mr Justice V.B. Handa, Sessions Judge of Ludhiana, has acquitted a man named Harjinder Singh of Basti Abdullapura of the charge of killing a girl named Pooja of Muradpura. The allegation against him could not be proved, as there was no eyewitness.

In order to explore new avenues for the physically challenged in the industrial sector a three-day workshop is being organised at the central tool room (CTR) here. A number of representatives from the industry and from among the physically challenged are attending the work shop which started here today.

Affix reflectors, says DM
Ludhiana, September 4
The DM has directed all the cycle, two-wheeler, rickshaw-pullers and horse cart owners to get reflectors affixed on the rear of their vehicles to prevent accidents. According to a communique from his office, it is a mandatory provision as per the municipal corporation bylaws and all vehicle owners will be responsible for getting the needful done in this context.
