Godhra inquiry
Godhra, September 1
Six months after the infamous Godhra carnage, the two-member judicial commission inquiring into the February 27 attack on Sabarmati Express and subsequent violence across Gujarat, visited the place today and inspected the burnt coach. Justice G.T. Nanavati and Justice K.G. Shah, retired judges of the Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court, respectively, visited several places to probe the train carnage. The commission members held discussions with Godhra railway station Superintendent Jaisinh Katiza and other officials, the sources added. PTI

B V Karanth dead
Bangalore, September 1
Renowned theatre personality B V Karanth, who brightened up country’s stage and made ineffable contributions, died at a private nursing home here tonight after battling with cancer for nearly three years, his family sources said. The 73-year-old theatre-director, who was diagnosed with prostrate cancer three years ago, was in coma for the past few days before he breathed his last around 8 pm, sources at the nursing home said.
