ROHTAK
PGIMS urged to ban direct entry as prof
Vipin Sharma

Rohtak, August 29
The newly elected Haryana State Medical Teachers’ Association has appealed to the Director, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, to impose an immediate ban on the direct entry of a medical teacher as a professor in the institute so as to protect the academic and administrative set-up in the only government-owned PGIMS in the state.

In a joint statement here today, Dr M. S. Gupta and Dr Griwan, president and secretary of the association, said that the executive council of the association met Maj-Gen (retd) Virender Singh, Director of the PGIMS on Wednesday to discuss certain important issues.

They informed the Director about the drawbacks of the selection at the level of a professor.

They pleaded that there had been no entry of outside talent to the post of professor in the institute during the past several years while they claimed that several junior medical teachers had made backdoor entries through this provision by using political links.

This practice had vitiated the academic atmosphere in the institute, they said.

Strengthening their demand, they said the practice of promoting the lecturers up to the level of professors was in force in all the neighbouring states including Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir.

They also emphasized that the three-tier system of designation of faculty members be introduced in the PGIMS as also commented by the Medical Council of India (MCI) in its last inspection report. The association leaders also sought autonomy to the unit heads.

They said that the PGIMS Director agreed to most of their demands and assured them that the matter would be taken to the higher authorities.
