Prabhjot stars in FC Chopra XI win

Another fine innings of 80 runs by Prabhjot Khatra and 144 by Gaurav Marwaha helped Prof F.C.Chopra XI outplay Anil Bharti XI by 87 runs and register their third win in a row in the first Charanjit Singh Ahluwalia Triangular Cricket Tournament for seniors being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association on the Arya College for Boys ground here yesterday. Prabhjot had made 120 runs in the inaugural match against Anil Bharti XI followed by an innings of 81 runs against Ashok Jain XI on August 6. Batting first, Prof F.C. Chopra XI scored 327 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Besides Gaurav and Prabhjot, Charanjit contributed 41runs. In reply, despite a useful innings by Aseem Jindal, Ravinder Manchanda and Jimmy Shankar who made 69, 44 and 37 runs, respectively, Anil Bharti XI could make 240 runs after 43.1 overs. For Prof F C Chopra XI, Tarun Kanish, Gurmit, Harkirat and Charandeep captured two wickets each. School gamesThe Ludhiana district zonal school games to be organised by the District Education Department begin at different venues on August 12 and the district has been divided into two zones for the purpose. Government Senior Secondary School of Punjab Agricultural University will be the venue for kabaddi (national style), volleyball, kho-kho and handball contests for the u-14, u-17 and u-19 cagtegories for boys as well as girls and football for the u-14 and u-17 for boys and girls. The cricket torunament will begin on August 29 for which the maximum entries have been received by the organisers. The first match will be played at Khanna. The competition in basketball for the u-14, u-17 and u-19 will be held at the Government Multipurpose School, Bharat Nagar, here while matches in table tennis and badminton are being hosted at Tagore Public School, Ludhiana.
