A 70-foot-wide breach in Bikaner (Gang) canal occurred this morning near Jagat Singh Wala village under Jalalabad tehsil in this border district. Flow of water in the canal to Rajasthan has been reduced after repair. TNS

Two ultras held with RDX
Lucknow, August 9
A major terrorist plot was foiled when the Uttar Pradesh police recovered 2.5 kg of RDX from two terrorists in Saharanpur last evening. According to the DGP office here, acting on a tip-off, the Saharanpur police arrested two Kashmir residents Latif Ahmed Totro, alias Abu Saaf, and Mohammed Amin Peer with a few timers in their possession at the railway godown trijunction. The duo admitted that they were planning a strike. UNI

Assam AAG sacked
Guwahati, August 9
Assam Additional Advocate-General (AAG) Niloy Dutta has lost his job for defending Defence Minister George Fernandes in the Tehelka scandal. According to an official source, the state government took the decision yesterday after Mr Dutta appeared for Mr Fernandes and Ms Jaya Jaitley in the Tehelka case. UNI
