Abhay Chautala hails India’s show

President of the Haryana Olympic Association Abhay Singh Chautala has congratulated the Indian sportspersons for their best-ever performance in the

Commonwealth Games held in Manchester. He said seven medallists belonged to Haryana, and he expressed his gratitude to Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala for his untinted support and co-operation for the development of sports in the State. The medal winners from Haryana included three hockey players—Mamta Kharab, Suman Bala and Pritam Siwatch, twoo wrestlers—Krishan Kumar and Ramesh Kumar, athlete Neelam J Singh and boxer Jitender Kumar. He said these sportspersons would be honoured appropriately at different sports forums.Mr Abhay Singh Chautala, who is also a senior vice-president of the Indian Olymic Association, said Haryana’s policy of providing attractive incentives and cash awards to sportspersons winning medals in national and international competitions, had borne fruit.

He said efforts were being made to start diploma courses from the next academic session at the Ch. Devi Lal North Zone Sports Authority of India Sports Centre at Joshi Chauhan in Sonepat district by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with a view to provide opportunities to outstanding sportspersons in the state to get admission in diploma courses in different games.

UDM, BSNL record wins

New Delhi, August 7
Urban Development Ministry (UDM) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) recorded identical 1-0 victories in their Group A and Group B round-robin league matches respectively in the Delhi Soccer Association Annual Institutional League at the Ambedkar Stadium in the Capital on Wednesday.

The Urban Development Ministry edged past All India Institute of Medical Sciences 1-0 to earn three points. Outside-left Santosh Kumar scored the match-winner in the 28th minute of

first half. In a Group B match, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited also scored a 1-0 victory against the Railway Board.

Inside-rightTenzing Sherpa blasted home the match-winner in the 59th minute. Thursday’s matches: A Division: Delhi Transport Corporation vs Bank of India (3.15 pm); Reserve Bank of India vs Delhi Administration (4.30 pm)—Ambedkar Stadium.

Hari Nagar Sports Complex enter final

New Delhi, August 7
Hari Nagar Sports Complex Coaching Centre, with the help of centuries by Raman Gujral (114, 2x6, 15x4) and Rahul (122, 18x4), beat Delhi University Coaching Centre by 209 runs to enter the final of the first DDA Hari Nagar Sports Complex Cricket Tournament.

Scores: Hari Nagar Sports Complex Coaching Centre: 366 for 6 in 40 overs (Raman Gujral 114, Rahul 122, Vivek 40, Vineet 2 for 29). Delhi University Coaching Centre: 157 all out in 33.4 overs (Varun Dev 35, Deepak 28, Manik Anand 3 for 39, Sahil 2 for 29). OSR

Haryana draws up Rs 56 cr plan for waste management

The Haryana Slum Clearance Board has formulated an ambitious Rs 56.56 crore project for the modernisation of the solid waste management system and the repair of roads in the 16 towns falling in the National Capital Region.

To be executed with a loan component of Rs 42.42 crore from the NCRPB, the project would have Rs 14.14 crore (25 per cent) as the municipal share. In fact, the NCRPB had already released the first and the second instalments amounting to Rs 21.20 crore, official sources said.

The towns which would be covered under the project are Gurgaon, Bahadurgarh, Sonepat, Palwal, Rewari, Rohtak, Panipat, Samalkha, Gohana, Ganaur, Jhajjar, Sohna, Nuh, Hodal, Meham and Bawal. M/s DHV Consultants of the Netherlands had been appointed for the preparation of the detailed project reports (DPRs) of the solid waste management schemes and for the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Scheme for 26 towns within the stipulated period subject to the compliance of the Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000.

The DPRs had already been submitted by the consultants and are under consideration for finalisation. The project had been launched with a view to modernise the solid waste management system and minimise the handling of waste management by men.

Another garbage station for city

New Delhi, August 7
Mr Ram Bhaj, MLA and Vice-Chairperson, New Delhi Municipal Council, inaugurated the NDMC’s ninth garbage station at Aurobindo Marg, near INA Market, this morning in the presence of Mr T. K. Sanyal, Financial Adviser, NDMC, Lt Col A.S. Gurung, MOH, and other senior officers of the civic body along with local residents and traders of the area.

The garbage station has been constructed in a plot area of 300 sq ft at a cost of Rs 4 lakh and completed in a short period of two months.

The objective behind setting up of this garbage station is to segregate the solid waste on a short term at the primary collection stage.

This station will provide facilities of segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes with colour coding system i.e. red for metal and glass, yellow for plastic materials, green for paper, gutta and organic waste and blue for mixed waste.

With the setting up of these garbage stations the environment will be upgraded and self-sustainable eco-friendly atmosphere will be developed by the successful functioning of these garbage stations.
