NBW out, reward for cop’s arrest

The Delhi police today announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for anyone providing information leading to the arrest of senior Haryana cadre IPS officer Ravi Kant Sharma and his alleged accomplice Satya Prakash. Non-bailable arrest warrants have also been issued against the duo in the Shivani murder case for evading arrest.

Kanwarias erupt, call for attack on Pak
Meerut, August 7
Thousands of Kanwarias went on the rampage here today after hearing the news of attack on the Amarnath pilgrims. The mob gathered at the historical Ogarbnath temple in the cantonment area, from where it proceeded towards the commissioner’s office. The Kanwariyas shouted slogans and clamoured for an immediate attack on Pakistan.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has sent a proposal for levy of service charges in respect of the premises occupied by the foreign missions in the national Capital, the Lok Sabha was told.

Protesting against the terrorist attack in Amarnath, protesters led by the National Akali Dal President, Mr Paramjeet Singh Pamma, today staged a demonstration near the Pakistani Embassy here today. The protesters burnt the effigy of the Pakistani President, General Pervez Musharraf, and the national flag of Pakistan.

PIL filed to ensure use of mother tongue

The Matribhasha Vikas Parishad, a public spirited social group engaged in the promotion of Indian languages, has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court to ensure the use of the mother tongue as a medium of imparting education to children at the primary stages.

Panipat farmer electrocuted
Panipat, August 7
Satya Narain, a 38-year-old farmer of Bohli village, was electrocuted when he came in contact with a live wire in his field on Wednesday morning. The post-mortem of the deceased was performed at the local Civil Hospital.

Four ‘supari’ killers held in Jhajjar
Jhajjar, August 7
The district police today arrested four dreaded gangsters, involved in several cases of ‘supari’ murders, looting and dacoity, from an abandoned place near bus stand here on Tuesday night, when they were planning a robbery.

New Delhi, August 7
The Delhi Police today arrested the Tehelka Investigation Editor Anirudh Bahal following a complaint from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that he had allegedly manhandled one of the officers of the investigating agency. However, he was later produced in the Patiala House courts and released on bail.

Schoolboy stabbed to death; four arrested
New Delhi, August 7
Four persons were arrested for killing a student and then dumping his body on the school premises on August 4. According to the police, Sanjeev, alias Johnny, a student of class X of a government school in Bawana, was stabbed to death.

Abhay Chautala hails India’s show

President of the Haryana Olympic Association Abhay Singh Chautala has congratulated the Indian sportspersons for their best-ever performance in the Commonwealth Games held in Manchester. He said seven medallists belonged to Haryana, and he expressed his gratitude to Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala for his untinted support and co-operation for the development of sports in the State.
