Cong not to project anyone as CM Kulu, June 15 While
criticising the statement of Mr Kishan Kapoor, Transport Minister, Himachal Government, about the encroachment of land worth Rs 200 crore by former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Mr Thakur said the minister did not have any proof to support his allegation. He said the minister had given a false and fabricated statement under pressure at the instance of his senior party leaders. Mr Thakur said Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, knew that his government was on its way out and his actions against Mr
Virbhadra Singh reflected his frustration. He said Mr Dhumal earlier talked of more than one hundred bighas of land which was allegedly encroached upon by Mr Virbhadra Singh but now that figure had come down to 21 bighas, which exposed the lies and fabrication of allegations by the Dhumal government. Mr Thakur further said the proposal of reorganisation of districts and creation of new districts appeared to be a gimmick and compared the
announcement to those of Mohammad Tughlak. He said the government should form a commission to chalk out plans and study the geographical and other aspects before announcing anything in this regard. He also alleged that the prevailing factionalism in the BJP was another factor that was making Mr Dhumal disappointed. He said Mr Shanta Kumar had said at a public meeting that the present government had not moved any resolution for giving the Gaddis tribal status. He further said that a resolution passed by the Congress in this regard was considered by the Union Government. Mr Thakur further alleged that the present BJP-HVC alliance had made the state bankrupt while it had sought loans worth more than Rs. 10,000 crore from financial institutions. He alleged that there was unprecedented recession in the industrial field. |
Kasauli
Club to be reconstructed Chandigarh, June 15 For the purists and the nostalgic-minded, the outer facade will remain the same as it was originally done up by the British in the serene hill town, of Kasauli, located about 60 km from here. The brief for architects reads: “Bring out a design which is a replica of the original and retain the ambience and style of the old with absolutely no changes.” The architects have been working with photographs of the old building. The new building will be constructed with modern materials like concrete as wood work will be impossible in today’s times, says Major-Gen Virender Singh (retd) who is involved with raising finances for the project. Speaking to The Tribune in Chandigarh, he said about Rs 1.50 crore was required for the project. About Rs 71 lakh would be available from the company which had insured the gutted building. The club had plans to ask each of its 400 permanent members to contribute Rs 5,000. This will be a voluntary gesture and some members had already donated more to bring the club back to its old glory. Besides this, the Army Headquarters and the Western Command based at Chandimandir, near Chandigarh, have been approached for funds and some money was expected from them. There is no Kasauli without the club, says General Virender Singh while stressing upon the importance of not just re-building the club but also making it look like the old one. Among the only changes from the original are that the first floor will not have rooms for visitors to stay. The rooms will be available in the arcade opposite the club. The balroom, the left lounge, right lounge and the bar will all be the same and in the same locations. A verandah at the rear end will be more open and will offer facilities to watch the valley on clear nights. A proposal for a basement to house the cards rooms, a billiards table and other such facilities has been dropped. The club authorities did not want to disturb the ecology. The building is located on rocks and a basement would have entailed drilling, says Mr Madhukar Malhotra , who is closely associated with the design of the building. It will have the same red tiles roof and will look like the old club. To give a wooden feel, pillars of concrete will be covered with panels. Veteran journalist Khushwant Singh has agreed to donate some of his books to the library. The fire had destroyed the library which had some very old books. |
