Board allows students to see answersheets Kangra, June 8 This was disclosed by the Secretary of the Board, Mr Vikas Labroo, while talking to this correspondent here today. He said the board took the decision in the interest of the students. He said the candidates could apply for rechecking within a month of the declaration of the results and if the candidate felt dissatisfied with the results of the rechecking, then after remitting the due fee he would be allowed to see his answersheet in the presence of a teacher of the same subject who would convince him about the marks allotted to him. Mr Labroo, however, made it clear that no alteration in the marks would be possible while seeing the answersheet or afterwards. He said: “This is only to uplift the sagging morale of the candidate and to convince him and clear his doubts which might have cropped up in his mind”. Mr Labroo said the facility would be for those candidates who applied for rechecking and not for those who sought revaluation. Mr Labroo said the board had further decided to have alteration in the revaluation concept too. He said candidates with minimum 20 per cent marks in the theory paper would be allowed to apply for revaluation in order to check the number of the applicants. He said as there was no ceiling on the minimum marks for revaluation so a large number of non-serious students also applied for it. He said the decision would be implemented after the declaration of the results of the annual examination in 2003. He said the board would certainly face a huge financial loss following the decision but the priority with the board was to protect the interest of the students. He said the board had taken another decision that revaluation facilities would be provided to the candidates of Matric and plus II classes and there would be no such facility for plus I students. However, the rechecking would be for all classes. |

Vendors occupy streets illegally Shimla, June 8 The Lakkar Bazaar, Lower Bazaar and the general bus stand areas are the main targets of the vendors. Pedestrians face inconvenience while passing through these areas as fruit and garment vedors have occupied almost half the width of the road. These areas are the hub of activity and favourite spots of tourists. According to the record of the Shimla Municipal (SMC), only about 150 vendors are licenced. But more than 600 of them are reportedly carrying on the business. A long row of vendors unauthorisedly sells fruits in the Lakkar Bazaar area right under the nose of the SMC. They are sometimes fined by the SMC, but the quantum of the fine is negligible. A vendor enjoying political patronage has blocked the passage to the public toilet on the main road near the general bus stand by stocking fruit boxes in the way. The position around the Rivoli bus stand is similar. Vendors have started appearing even on the Mall near the Lift and sports complex. Many vendors squat on the road in the congested Sanjauli chowk. Shopkeepers in the Lower Bazaar and Ganj Bazaar areas have also put hurdles on the road by placing their merchandise outside. The fruit sellers who were shifted from the main road of the Lower Bazaar have now occupied a narrow passage towards the Sabzi Mandi. A local resident has filed a public interest litigation in the high court against this chaos. The vendors were some time ago removed from the Lower Bazaar, but the SMC authorities have again allowed them to occupy the narrow streets allegedly under political pressure. The commissioner of the SMC, Mr H.N. Kashyap, said that steps were being taken to streamline the system and the town has been divided into three zones for effective supervision. |
