The SAD (Amritsar) has reacted sharply to the statement of the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, to do everything possible to defend the policemen facing litigation in connection with “false encounters”. The Dal has decided to launch an agitation to expose the government’s alleged anti-Sikh and pro-police attitude.

Case registered after 14 months
Ludhiana, June 13
More than 14 months after a Ludhiana-based woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped twice by two men with the help of a woman near Jarhtoli village, the Dehlon police has booked three persons in the case and arrested all of them.

Daylight robbery in Krishna Nagar
Ludhiana, June 13
The Civil Lines police has registered a case under Section 392 of the IPC in connection with an armed robbery in Krishna Nagar yesterday afternoon. Mr Gagan Preet Singh, a resident of the colony, had complained to the police yesterday that Sonu, accompanied by two of his cronies, who were not known to him, came to his house at about 2 pm and snatched Rs 4,000, two gold bracelets and a pair of silver anklets at pistol point before escaping.

Married woman raped

The Dehlon police on the complaint of a married woman of Basant Nagar Street, Lohara, registered a case under Sections 376, 506 and 120-B, IPC, that she was raped allegedly by Baljinder Singh of Dehlon and Kuldip Singh, alias Neela, of Jadtoli.

When mercury soars and when one is out on the road, sweaty, thirsty, reeling under the hot sun, the ice candy man with his colourful and tempting candies seems to be the life saver. Young and old all succumb to the temptation of the ice balls, popularly known as ‘barf ke gole’ sprinkled liberally with brightly-coloured red, green and orange ‘sherbets’. Everyone wants to suck the cool ice ball to get some relief from the fury of the ball of fire. -sun- without bothering about what it is going to do to the digestive system later on.

DMCH employees go on strike
Ludhiana, June 13
Employees of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital today went on a strike in response to a call given by the employees’ union. The strike call was given following the breakdown of talks between the union leaders and the management over the shifting of the Gastroenterology Ward.

Maiden victory for SAN Jain School

A fine bowling performance (5 for 23) by Karan steered SAN Jain Senior Secondary School to their first victory by 22 runs against Green Land Senior Secondary School in the eighth league match of the Sixth Chaman Lal Malhotra Cricket Cup Tournament for boys U-15 being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association in the Arya College for Boys ground here today.
