10 Assam Rifles men shot
Imphal, May 27
In the first major strike this year armed Manipur insurgents ambushed an Assam Rifles convoy killing at least 10 security personnel at Tongsong area, about 45 km from here today, official sources said. The insurgents, emerging from thick roadside jungles, sprayed bullets on the security personnel who reached near Sangsad village on the Imphal-Ukhrul road at around 10.30 am, the sources added. PTI

Emergency in Nepal
Kathmandu, May 27
Emergency has been reimposed in Nepal to tackle Maoist insurgency, it was officially announced here today. A Palace proclamation said King Gyanendra reimposed a state of emergency after a recommendation from the Council of Ministers. UNI

200 animals killed
Alwar, May 27 
At least 230 animals were killed and four shepherds sustained burn injuries after being struck by lightning at Maswasee village here on May 25, the police said here today. Over 12 goats also perished, the police added. UNI
