He opined the aggression or invasion from the north and north-east was not difficult and the past experiences have not been used to take lessons. He said socio-geographic conditions of the Himalayan belt had not been proper and encouraging and he had submitted a plan on ‘Trans-Himalayan Development Project’ to the Prime Minister. He also advocated for all-round development of the areas near the borders, so that ‘we are able to meet any challenge regarding the security threat. The farmers had come on tractor-trailers from Satari village with the meters and left them at the HVPN office in the town. The BKU activists asserted that they would not be cowed down by the threats being held out by the Chief Minister to act against them, the farmers alleged that the state government was putting additional economic burden on the farmers by installing electronic meters. They warned that they would not allow the HVPN officers to enter the rooms of their pumping sets in their fields. In another incident in the Sarafa Bazar area of the town remained tense for another day. On Thursday, a piquant situation was averted when the police was called to pacify the agitating and angry shopkeepers. When HVPN officials reached Sarafa Bazar to instal new electronic meters the shopkeepers came out and held a protest demonstration against the HVPN officials. Almost all shopkeepers in the bazar pulled up the shutters and even clashed with the HVPN officials. Over 20 shopkeepers threw the meters on the road. The HVPN officials said they would not visit the bazar to instal meters without police help. Hooda condemns Uma Bharati’s statement Chandigarh, March 24 In a statement issued here today Mr Hooda said Ms Bharati had no right to comment on the leadership of the Congress and its existence because this party had made a historic contribution to the freedom struggle and in building a new India after Independence. He said the Congress under the leadership of Mrs Sonia Gandhi would continue its fight against communal forces within and outside the government, which, he alleged, were hell bent on causing irreparable damage to the secular structure of the country. He said BJP leaders should desist from interfering in the internal matters of the Congress. Mr Hooda said to talk of the end of the Congress was nothing more than a figment of the imagination of BJP leaders like Ms Bharati. He said the way the people had marginalised the BJP during the recent Assembly elections, a big question mark had been put on the very existence of the BJP and a change of leadership would not be enough to save this party, which would have to change its thinking and its policies. |
