Heath Streak holds cricket clinic

Zimbabwean all-rounder Heath Streak spared some time to participate in the Sandpiper Heath Streak Coaching Clinic at the Le Meridien Hotel in theCapital.

The Sandpiper Heath Streak Coaching Clinic provided an unique opportunity to be part of a collective forum where Heath Streak focussed on the nuances of the game, how the participants can add value to the game and what it’s like to be part of a national team.

Heath Streak, one of the leading exponents of fast bowling, also demonstrated the art of seam bowling and how to bowl outswing. Eighty students from the Madan Lal Cricket Academy and the Delhi and District Cricket Association attended the clinic.

IOCL to meet GAIL in PSCB Tennis final

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) defeated IBP 2-0 to set-up the title clash with GAIL, who defeated ONGC 2-0, in the 21st Petroleum Sports Control Board Tennis Tournament at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association courts in the Capital on Wednesday.

In the semi-finals on Monday, IOCL beat IBP 2-0 (P.Srinath beat T.S.Bhondari 6-2, 6-0; Vasudev Reddy beat Saurav Panja 6-4,6-4) while Gas Authority of India Ltd blanked Oil and Natural Gas Commission 2-0 (Vishal V.P.Pal beat S.K.Palani 6-2,6-0; Vinod Sridhar beat V.N.Prakash 6-0, 6-0).

Puran Singh helps World Bank win

A swashbuckling all-round performance by Puran Singh (63, 3x6, 5x4, 41b and 8 for 31) enabled World Bank beat Sri Lankan High Commission by 150 runs in a league match of the Raymond Trophy Commonwealth Cricket Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium ground. Puran Singh was declared the man of the match.

Scores: World Bank: 210 for 6 in 35 overs (Puran Singh 63, Keneth 40, Isuru Niranjan 2/31).Sri Lankan High Commission: 60 in 11.2 overs (Romesh 11, Puran Singh 8/31).

TYCA enter semis

Fine all-round performances by Jaswinder Singh (2/23 and 56) and Delhi Ranji player Rajeev Rathore (3/27 and 37 no) enabled Trans Yamuna Cricket Association (TYCA) beat Subhania Club by seven wickets and enter the semi-final of the second Rajdhani Sports Trophy Cricket Tournament at the Kalindi College ground. Jaswinder was declared the man of the match. Scores: Subhania Club: 144 all out in 34.4 overs (Jitender Solanki 40, Avinash Kumar 27, Rajeev Rathore 3/27, Jaswinder Singh 2/23). TYCA: 147 for 3 in 26.2 overs (Jaswinder Singh 56, Rajeev Rathore 37 no, Deepak Bhatnagar 27, Kapil Mehta 20 no).

Sushil hits ton

A blistering century knock by Sushil Menon (8x4, 4x6) and a fine all-round performance by Mahavir Singh (48 and 3/31) helped Gillette (Head Office) beat defending champions Bhiwadi by six runs to lift the second Jaswinder Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Jamia Millia ground. Mr Arun Sehgal gave away the prizes.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Mr Anil Khanna, Joint Secretary of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), as the match observer for the second One-Day International (day/night) tie between India and Zimbabwe to be played in Mohali on March 10.

A sharp bowling spell by Neeraj Gupta (3/14) and all-round display by Aditya Jain (2/15 and 29 no) powered Dena Bank to an eight-wicket victory against Canara Bank in the fourth Trans Yamuna Cricket Association (TYCA) Cricket League at the Tahirpur Sports Complex. In another match, Bharat Nagar Coaching Centre beat Super Club by seven wickets.

Scores: Canara Bank: 79 all out in 20 overs (Vijay Singh 20, Neeraj Gupta 3/14, Aditya Jain 2/15, Vikas Vij 2/25).

Dena Bank: 80 for 2 in 12.1 overs (Aditya Jain 29 no,Puneet Bism 22 no, Kartarnath 22, Shiv Kumar Saxena 2/21).

A few months ago, the media was pre-occupied by the cricket match-fixing scandal. A couple of quick books on the scandal was also produced, though the real truth is yet to be brought out. Now, yet another book on the match-fixing scandal has been launched, which tries to dwell a little deep into the whole controversy. Authored by Mr Naresh Sharma, “Match Fixing: Hang the Culprits”, published by Minerva Press, is a passionate appeal to all concerned to cleanse the game of all dirt and allegations, and restore it to its pristine glory.

Drive to enforce discipline at Capital’s roundabouts

After successfully enforcing the Seat-belt campaign in the city, the Delhi Traffic police is all set to introduce Roundabouts discipline, which are self regulating traffic control devices at junctions.

According to the traffic officials, this self-regulation can prove successful if the public respect the role of the ‘right of way’. The Delhi Traffic Police have been making various efforts to inculcate this habit among the motorists in the city.

Additional signage at each entry arm of the rotary indicating “roundabout ahead”, “give way” and “give way to traffic on your right”, have already been affixed on either side of the roads.

Even physical efforts of the traffic cops with the help of placards and banners had been introduced to educate motorists. According to an official, it is mandatory to each motorist to obey the road signage, put up by the Traffic Police.

Any person violates the traffic rules at the roundabouts will invite fine of Rs 100 for the first time and Rs 300 for second and subsequent offences.

Besides, the traffic police had even launched a major educational cum enforcement drive to enforce the traffic rules. During this drive banners stating, “Respect others’ right of way” and “Halt before you enter a roundabout”, were displayed in major roundabouts in New Delhi. In fact, two lakh educational pamphlets explaining the correct procedure to negotiate a roundabout were distributed, besides introducing a public address system to educate them about roundabouts.

During this drive from February 6 to March 6, the Delhi Traffic Police have prosecuted 17110 motorists. While 15691 notices were issued, 1419 persons were prosecuted on the spot for not obeying mandatory road signage at roundabouts.

According to the traffic police this drive will continue and all motorists are requested to co-operate with the Traffic Police to make their effort a success. The traffic police have been successful in their drive on seat belts.

Traffic diversions: The Delhi Traffic police has made some traffic diversions in view of the Radha Soami Satsang Beas to be held at Chhattarpur - Bhatti Mines Complex, Bhati Centre, on March 8, 9 and 10.

During the satsang "No HTV's, will be allowed to ply on the Bhatti Mines Road between Chhattarpur Gurgaon Road T-Point and Satsang Complex from 6.30 am to 4.00 pm on all the three days mentioned above."

The stretch between the Dera Morh to Nahata Farms has been declared as "No Parking Zone" during the Satsang period as large number of devotees are expected to attend the Satsang, said the traffic police release.
