Professor’s scale for 17 PGI docs

The PGI Governing body has in principle, passed that 25 per cent of the PGI professors can be placed in the bracket with senior professors. Interview for these 17 posts thus created were held at the PGI yesterday and the decisions will be ratified at the next meeting of the Governing Body. This was decided at the meetings of the Governing body and Institute Body of the PGI held in New Delhi today.

According to the PGI Director, ratification of selection of 27 Additional Professors as Professors would be cleared by the Governing Body subject the decision of the Supreme Court regarding similar cases in the AIIMS. Sealing the selections, it was however decided that in case these professors gave an undertaking to the effect that they would not be affected by the decision of the Supreme Court even if it decides to raise the emoluments of similarly placed professors in AIIMS, their selections would be considered cleared. Sixteen of these additional professors were selected as professors from July 2000 while 11 were selected in July 2001.

It is also learnt that the ratification of the Associate Professors selected as additional professors has been done.

The matter of the high-powered committee also came up for discussion and it was decided that the committee should remain as a forum for the employees to air their demands and discuss these with the administration.

The matter of redesignation of medical technologists some posts of whom were to be redesignated without any change in pay scale was also taken up. Some of these redesignation were approved while for others it was decided that the changes made should be in line with the AIIMS pattern.

Punjab enter last four in tennis meet

Chandigarh, February 27
The Punjab team made it to the last four of the team events in the third All-India Police Tennis Championship, being played here at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10. SM Sharma, a senior IPS officer of Punjab, was the star of the day when he won his singles and doubles matches.

The veterans doubles quarter-final matches saw four pairs — Sukhdev Kar and Rajiv Kumar; Anil Mohan and RK Swamy; Dr Krishna Murthy and Sharma; PP Singh and Upadhya — reaching the semi-finals. The results are as follows:

Team championship: Punjab b UP 2-0 (SM Sharma b DGP Karsolia 6-1, 6-0; SM Sharma and Rakesh b DGP Karsolia and Rao 7-5, 6-0).

MP b CBI 2-0 (Sukhraj Singh b Pankaj Singh, OP Dixit and Vijay Yadav b Pankaj and SK Upadhya; SPG b BSF 2-0 (AK Sharma b Suresh Pratap, AV Chawla and Sandeep Datta b M.Sonowal and Bhardwaj; Karnataka b West Bengal 2-0 (Dr Krishan Murthy b RK Panchannada, Dr Krishan Murthy and BNS Reddy b Rak Kanojia and RK Panchannada, AP b Orissa 2-1 (PG Kumar b BK Behera; BK Behera and MK Chhabra b PG Kumar and Madan Lal, Madan Lal b S Kar.

The winners in the individual events in veteran singles were PG Kumar, Sis Ahmed, PP Singh, RK Swami, Sukhdev Kar, Karunakar Rao, Anil Mohan and SM Sharma.

Match tied

The cricket match played between the Chandigarh Administration XI and the Punjab Officer’s XI played here on Wednesday at the Cricket stadium in Sector 16 ended in a tie. The skipper of Punjab Officer’s XI, Mr Rajan Kashyap, won the toss and elected to bat. The team scored 178 runs in the allotted 25 overs. In reply, the UT Administration XI also scored 178 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 25 overs.

The best batsman award went to Mr Narinder Kwatra, while the best bowler award to Parveen Kumar and the best fielder award to Mr Popli.

Taekwondo meet

The selection of the Punjab state senior colour belts in men and women section and Black belt (only men) taekwondo teams will be conducted by the Punjab Taekwondo Association at Guru Nanak VBT Polytechnic, C-4, Industrial Area, Phase I, SAS Nagar, on March 3. The weighing- in will start at 9 am. This was stated by Mr Satpal Singh Rehal, general secretary-cum-Technical Director, Punjab Taekwondo Association. Rehal said the selected players will thus take part in the 20th national colour belt and black belt (senior) Taekwondo championship in men and women section at Talkotra stadium, New Delhi, from March 8.

Shooting results

Karambir Singh of Chandigarh shot first position in the .22 Std. Rifle OS- Prone Junior mens section on the third day of the Northern India Shooting Championship, being organised by the Zonal Rifle Shooting Academy here at the Patiali Ki Rao shooting ranges in Sector 25.

In the senior men’s section, Santokh Singh secured the first place. In the women’s section, Veer Pal Kaur of Punjab was able to bag the first place. In the .22 std rifle OS NR three position women section, Amandeep of Punjab was leading with 171/300, while in men’s section of the same event, Santokh Singh also of Punjab, was leading with 233/300 followed by Pradeep with 223/300, while Manjit shot 203 in the civilian category.

Traffic police challans 288 persons

Chandigarh, February 27
In its week-long special drive, the traffic police here today issued challans to 288 persons who were found driving cars without wearing the mandatory seat belts. Yesterday, over 300 car drivers were challaned for the same offence.
