Cong charge sheet against UP Govt New Delhi, January 22 Mr Jaiswal said that the Congress would target the BJP, SP and BSP in the assembly poll and scotched reports of any post-poll alliance with the Samajwadi Party. Mr Jaiswal said that the Congress was strongly opposed to both the SP and the BSP which had helped growth of “communal forces” in UP. He
criticised the attempts of the Sangh Parivar to rake up the temple issue on the eve of elections, saying that people would not be influenced by such tactics. “Temple is no more an issue and would not pay any electoral dividends to the BJP,” Mr Jaiswal said. On the demand of separate Harit Pradesh in Western UP, Mr Jaiswal said that the Congress favoured the setting up of a state reorganisation commission to decide all such demands. In its charge sheet against the Rajnath Singh government, which was released today, the state Congress has accused the BJP of bribing MLAs to form its government. It says that BJP leaders were involved in several cases of corruption and the Lokayukta and Vigilance Commission had found eight ministers and 22 administrative officers prima facie guilty. The charge sheet says that 18 MLAs were sworn in as ministers in the BJP-led government even though they were facing police cases. Accusing the state government and the Sangh Parivar of engineering attacks on the minority community, the chargesheet says that law and order situation had worsened in the state. |

Notice to HRD Ministry, NCERT New Delhi, January 22 In their petition to the NHRC early this month, the educationists alleged that the revision of text-books prescribed for children was likely to have an adverse impact on their development and could distort their personality and development. While considering the complaint, the commission held that the right to development was the most basic right of every child, duly recognised by the convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) to which India was a party and which had been reiterated in the 1993 World Conference at Vienna. The commission said Article 39 (1) incorporates the right to development as a Directive Principle of State Policy. |

Thackeray snubs nephew Raj
Mumbai, January 22 “I never expected him to go to the Press at this juncture”, Mr Thackeray told an impromptu press conference at his suburban Bandra residence. “Raj Thackeray was being instigated by a handful of party leaders with crab mentality”, he said, adding that “at their behest he went to the media against the party leadership”. The
Sena chief said as long as he was heading the party he would run it in his own style. “I do not believe in the so-called democracy. There is no room for groupism in the party”, he added. However, the
Sena chief hoped to reconcile with Raj Thackeray after the civic poll in which he did not expect any adverse fall-out of the bickerings. Asked about any disciplinary action against Raj Thackeray, who was once described as Mr Thackeray’s successor, the
Sena chief said the recent happenings and his nephew’s media interview was “more like a whiff of passing breeze”. He said he knew Raj’s Thackeray’s mind and would iron out the differences only after the February 10 elections since “I do not have time right now”. Mr Thackeray exuded confidence that Raj Thackeray would never quit the party and would campaign for poll. In a recent interview, Raj Thackeray had openly criticised the manner in which party ticket were distributed and had called for “cleansing of the party machinery”.
