DHURI
MP HONOURED: Mr Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, MP and president, Lok Bhalai Party, was honoured for his efforts in getting 31 Punjabi youths languishing in Pakistani jails released. The function was organised here on Sunday by the Punjabi Sabhiachar Society, Sangrur. Mr Ramoowalia announced the candidature of Mr Baldev Singh Narike from Dhuri Assembly constituency.

KHAMANO
KABADDI CUP: Fifth International Kabaddi Lodhi Cup will be held at Guru Nanak Stadium on January 30, 2002 under the chairmanship of Mr Beant Singh Dhaliwal, president, Youth Akali Dal Badal (Canada). Teams from America, Canada, England, Pakistan and Punjab will take part in the event. The winning team will get a cash award of Rs 70,000 and the runners-up will get Rs 51,000. Besides, best raider and best topper will get motor cycles. This was stated here by president of the Youth Sports Club, Mr Avtar Singh Sohana.

BHOG: Bhog of Shri Sahaj Path will be performed on Wednesday at Gurdwara Sahib Bhambri, near here, in memory of martyr Sepoy Gurmail Singh Billa of 11 Sikh Li, who died during ‘Operation Rakshak’ in Machal sector, Jammu and Kashmir, on December 21. This was stated here by Pritpal Singh, brother of the deceased.

LUDHIANA
DESIGNER CLOTHES: International designer, who has dressed many a Miss India and leading Bollywood actresses, Ritu Kumar will be showcasing her creation under the label Ritu’s here in the beginning of 2002. The exhibition brings to the town her special printed crepes, Indo western wear, kashida coats light zardosi suits, silk sarees with exclusive prints and kashida sarees with and without jackets. The exhibition includes suits for casual wear, range starting from Rs 1,770 onwards. The exhibition will be held on January 7, 8, 9, 2002 at ‘Gulrez’ at Rani Jhansi Road. 

PAINTING EXHIBITION: An exhibition of paintings was organised by Hunar Art Garden, an art school, at Lakshmi Ladies Club on Sunday. Over 150 paintings depicting the Indian culture, women life and beauty of the nature were on display. Ms Harinder Kaur, in charge of the school, said a majority of the paintings had been prepared by the students and exhibition was arranged to give them some exposure.

OFFICE-BEARERS: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Government Pensioners’ Association for the next two years: president — Mr R.N. Sehgal; vice-president — Mr R.C. MALERKOTLA
ELECTROCUTED: Malkiat Singh of Takkar village was electrocuted near Dasoundha Singhwala village on Sunday. According to the information, he was on night duty and while disconnecting a switch on the transformer he accidently touched an electric wire.

MEDICAL CAMP: A medical camp was organised by the Oriental Bank of Commerce, Bagrian, in the village on Sunday. Dr Mulakh Raj examined about 350 patients at the camp.

MANDI GOBINDGARH
NOMINATED: The Department of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Government of Punjab, has nominated Mr Sarinder Kumar Singhi, industrialist, from here as a member of Institute Management Committee at Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Patiala, for ensuring close interaction between technical education and industry in the state.

APPOINTMENT HAILED: The appointment of Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Director, Markfed, Punjab, as the president of the Youth Wing of Shiromani Akali Dal-Badal has been hailed by the people of the area. Jathedar Singh Umaidpuri, chairman, Market Committee, Sahnewal, Baba Jagroop Singh, circle president, Mr Gurmit Singh Brar, Mr Rachpal Singh Brar, senior vice-president, Mr Tejinder Singh Sandhu and Mr Shamsher Singh Kaile thanked Mr Sukbir Singh Badal, Rajya Sabha Member and Mr Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, Punjab, for appointing Mr Dhillon.
