Red Cross Society to purchase ambulance

Panchkula, December 31
The Red Cross Society, Panchkula has decided to purchase an ambulance for the CHC, Kalka.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Red Cross Society authorities and St. John Association held under the chairmanship of Ms Jyoti Arora, the Deputy Commissioner. Apart from this another decision to purchase a funeral van was also taken at the meeting.

For the purchase of the vehicles, a sum of Rs 2.5 lakh is available with the authorities and rest of the money would be arranged, said Mr C.B. Goyal, member of the Executive Committee of the Red Cross Society and president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the Kalka SDM to appeal the public to donate money for the ambulance van.

It was also decided in the meeting that funds would be collected to boost the activity of Red Cross by making more lifetime members of the society in the district.

Ms Arora disclosed that a survey would be conducted at each block headquarter to identify handicapped persons to whom needed aid and appliances would be supplied.

CGHS dispensary in city soon

The Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare is going to start its first dispensary under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) in the city.

The scheme will benefit employees of the Central Government, including those of the public sector undertakings. This information was given by Dr R.K. Bhullar, Joint Director, CGHS, Chandigarh, here today.

Dr Khullar further informed that initially the CGHS services would be provided at the poly-clinic, Sector 45, which would be later converted into a CGHS dispensary. On the basis of the response in the city, two more dispensaries will be started.

St John’s School win cricket meet

Chandigarh, December 31
St John’s High School, Sector 26, trounced Hansraj Public School, Sector 6, Panchkula, by 100 runs in a one-sided cricket match played here today in under-16 section for the second St John’s Challenger Trophy. Anhad Gill, Chaitanya Anand and Arjun Behl were adjudged the best all-rounder, best batsman and best bowler, respectively. Ms P. Cheema, Principal, St John’s school, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.

Brief scores: St John’s: 212 runs for six (Anhad Gill 54, Chaitanya Anand 47 n.o.), HPS, Pkl: 112 runs all out (Nelson 18, Varun 17, Anhad Gill 3 for 14, Chaitanya 2 for nine).

Rajesh bags bronze

Rajesh Kumar, a constable in the Chandigarh police, bagged bronze medal in rifle shooting in the 45th All-India Police Duty Meet held at Dehra Dun recently.

The Chandigarh police team secured overall third place in this meet where 22 teams from the entire country participated.
