Una, September 8
The chemist shop being run by HP Civil Supply Corporation here at the district hospital has remained closed for the past one week. Last week a news item appeased in some newspapers that the chemist shops being run by HP Civil Supply Corporation at many places like Una, Rampur Bushehar, Karsog and Nahan were running without drug licences, which was a criminal offence. The matter was brought to the notice of the state government by the drug inspector.

Mr S.S. Chaudhary, district president of the Chemists Association, Una and Mr Munish Chadha, state vice-president of the association told mediapersons here that the chemist shops of the corporation at Una district had been running without a drug licence since 1996 and no drug inspector had bothered to check it. They said the matter was brought to the notice of the state Health Department and the Chief Minister but no action was taken.

They further said the corporation was a profit making agency and the district hospital authority allowed it to open chemist shop at the district hospital so that patients could purchase medicines at cheaper rates. They produced some medicines bills issued by these chemist shops where the printed rate was much less than what had been charged.

Mr Chaudhary and Mr Chadha demanded legal action against corporation in this connection.
