Natasha declared best speaker

Ludhiana, August 31
The School Health Committee of Ludhiana Citizen’s Health Council organised an inter-school debate contest on ‘Modern teacher : A true nation builder’ at Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, here today.

Students of plus one and plus two classes from 13 schools and colleges participated in the contest. Each institution was represented by a team of two students speaking for and against the topic. Each student had to speak on the topic for four to five minutes.

Natasha Sharma from GGN Public School won the first prize with a cash award of Rs 2,000. Second prize was shared by Devyani from Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, and Vasundra from Arya College for Women with cash award of Rs 1,500 each. Third prize was given to Japinder with a cash award of Rs 1,000. The host team was declared the best and won the running trophy.

Mr Anil Kumar, English teacher at the host school, compered the programme. Dr Balwant Singh, former Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences, Punjab Agricultural University, and Dr G.S. Randhawa, former Registrar, PAU, were the judges. Dr Joginder Singh, Director, Health Services and Family Welfare, Punjab, was the chief guest. Sister Helima, Principal of the host school, Mr Jagdish Garcha, Minister of Technical Education, Dr L.S. Brar, chairperson, School Health Committee, and Mr Madan Lal Goel, secretary of the committee, were also present on the occasion.

Badminton meet from Sept 8

Ludhiana, August 31
The Ludhiana District Badminton Championship will be organised from September 8 to 11 at the Shastri Badminton Hall, Guru Nanak Stadium, according to a press note issued by Mr R.S. Behal, General Secretary, Ludhiana District Badminton Association.

The championship will be held for the age groups under 10, 13, 16 and 19, seniors, mixed doubles and veterans above 45 years of age. The events will be for both men as well as women.

The performance during the championship will be taken into consideration while selecting the district teams for the state championships, the note said.
