Airing of ‘Lajja’ restrained
New Delhi, August 30
The Delhi High Court today restrained various cable networks of the Capital from showing film “Lajja”, which is to be released tomorrow. In a petition filed before Mr Justice V.S. Aggarwal, Santoshi Productions, said they were apprehensive that some cable networks might illegally air/beam the film, in violation of their copyright, and also causing them a revenue loss. UNI

Collector refutes starvation deaths
Kashipur (Orissa), August 30
Stung by the National Human Rights Commission’s directive to the Orissa Government on the alleged starvation deaths in the Kashipur block of the state, the Rayagada district administration has apparently geared itself to combat the situation. While refuting the reports that these deaths were caused by starvation and eating of food unfit for human consumption, Collector Bishnupada Sethi said, “Most of the deaths occurred due to consumption of contaminated food.” PTI

No starvation deaths: Shanta
New Delhi, August 30
Concerned over reports of starvation from various parts of the country, the Centre tonight announced that it would soon adopt stringent legal measures to strengthen the PDS to ensure effective distribution of foodgrains. At a debate on the non-availability of foodgrains, Food Minister Shanta Kumar said the Centre was “not helpless” in tackling the situation. Denying reports of starvation deaths, he said the distribution of foodgrains was the responsibility of the states. PTI
