Chautala backs Jaya on cops’ transfer
Chennai, August 29
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa today got support from an unexpected quarter when NDA ally and Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala came out against the Centre’s requisitioning of services of three IPS officers involved in M. Karunanidhi’s arrest. In a letter to Ms Jayalalithaa, a copy of which was released to the Press, Mr Chautala said the issue had serious implications on the Centre-state relations and the future of all-India services. PTI

Bail rejected in Red Fort case
New Delhi, August 29
A Delhi court today dismissed the bail petitions of Rahmana Yusuf Farooqi and Babar Mohsin Bhagwala, arrested in the Red Fort shooting case in which three persons including two Armymen, were killed on December 21, 2000. Additional District and Sessions Judge M.S. Sabherwal in his order said the bail petitions were dismissed as allegations against “the accused are of serious nature.” The accused had been nabbed by the police on December 26 and lodged in the Tihar Jail in judicial custody.
