Singer sentenced to two years in prison

A singer, Baljit Singh alias Bheeta, a resident of Alipur village, Khanna, has been sentenced to two years in prison and fined Rs 2000 in a corruption case by the Special Judge, Mr G.R. Banyal. The police had recovered Rs 20,000 from the accused out of Rs 60,000 accepted as bribe.

Understaffed colleges make students suffer

Snake found in drinking water supply

Claims made by the Municipal Corporation administration on the quality of water supply in the city notwithstanding, the supply of contaminated water, at times mixed with sewerage water and sullage or carrying foreign matter like insects and even snakes, continues unabated in the city.

Most Ludhiana dairies have unhygienic conditions

A number of dairies in the district have been found lacking in the basic hygienic facilities needed to be provided to the animals. Officials in the Animal Husbandry Department also admit that most of these dairies are overcrowded and are flouting the specifications set by the Municipal Corporation for their maintenance.

They have the potential, creativity and imagination and if a right track is provided to their perception, they can prove to be the top designers in the world”, said Ms Magda Prats, a Spanish designer from Barcelona, who was in the city yesterday to encourage and share her ideas on the textile industry with the students of the National Institute of Fashion Designing (NIFD).

Paddlers Land Senior Secondary Public School which represented Ludhiana-I in the Punjab State Senior Secondary Schools District Table-Tennis Tournament (u-17) held at Khanna on August 21 gave a stupendous performance to help their school emerge as champion. In the final, they beat Sacred Heart Convent School which represented Ludhiana-II.

Admn seeks time to file reply
