People think that chinar is confined to great heights only. Sometime ago a report published in The Tribune talked about the fact that foresters have successfully grown the majestic chinar trees in Shimla which sits at a height of 6,000 feet. The saplings were brought from Kashmir; the valley is the place where these beautiful trees have been confined all these years. Simranjit Singh Mann, MP, has sent us a picture of a chinar growing at his house in Quila Harnam Singh Tallania village, district Fatehgarh Sahib. According to Mann, his house at Quila Harnam Singh is situated at a height of about 800 ft above sea level. “I received a small sapling from Kashmir valley about 5 years ago,” says Mann. What’s amazing is that the chinar has successfully adapted itself to this change in its environment. In a short span of 5 years, the tree has gained a good height in the plains. As Mann informs, his Quila Harnam is also home to a beautiful walnut tree.
