ABOHAR ASSAULTED: The police has registered a case under Sections 324, 506 and 34, IPC, against two persons, including a BSP activist, for assaulting Mr Aad Ram of Ramsara village.
AMLOH AMRITSAR BATHINDA GURDASPUR HOSHIARPUR 2 KILLED: Dr Rajindner Kumar, a resident of Tanda, succumbed to his injuries at the DMC, Ludhiana, on Tuesday. He was wounded when a truck hit his car on June 18, near the octroi barrier at Tanda. The driver escaped with his truck after hitting the car. The police has registered a case under Sections 279, 427 and 304-A of the IPC. In another accident, Lalli (8), daughter of Golu of Rurka Kulara, was crushed to death by a car while she was crossing a road near Mandiala on Tuesday night. BOOKED: On a complaint of Mahant Charanjit of Dera Nath Lachowal, the police has registered a case under Sections 406, 420 and 380 of the IPC against Gurdev Singh of Darapur, Mohinder Singh of Mohalla Milap Nagar and Darshan Singh of Nainowal Jattan on Tuesday. According to the police, the accused, under the pretext of performing akhand path bhog at his dera, took the keys of the dera on March 23 and later decamped with utensils, durees and a wooden door from the dera. CASH LOOTED: Two car-borne youths looted Rs 2,43,000 at gun-point from Baldev Singh, a salesman of a petrol pump in Sector 4, at Talwara, on Tuesday. According to the police, Baldev Singh was going on a scooter to deposit the cash at the local branch of the Punjab National Bank when the youths hit the scooter, snatched the cash and escaped in a car not bearing a registration plate. CASE REGISTERED: The Garhshankar police has registered a case under Sections 307 and 34 of the IPC against Sital Singh and his mother, Piaro, of Heyatpur village for allegedly burning Ranjit Kaur by sprinkling kerosene, on her on Tuesday. Ranjit Kaur, wife of Sital Singh, got serious burn injuries following the incident. KHAMANO MACHHIWARA DEPUTATION: In a press note issued here on Wednesday, Mr Karamjit Azad, press secretary, Punjab State Tubewell Corporation SC/BC Employees Federation, said a deputation comprising Mr Gulzar Singh Begowal, president, Mr Makhan Singh Jaspalwi, general secretary, Mr Prem Singh Preet, senior vice-president, and other office-bearers of the federation have met the Managing Director of the corporation regarding their demands. The deputation demanded not to close down the corporation. The Managing Director assured them that there was no such proposal to close down the corporation. MANDI GOBINDGARH URDU CLASSES: Mr Rajwant Singh, District Language Officer, while talking to mediapersons here on Thursday, disclosed that Urdu classes would start from July at Fatehgarh Sahib. He further said, interested persons may contact the said officer. PROCESSION: A procession headed by Mr Mohan Singh Bhagowalia, secretary, Bahujan Samaj Party, Punjab, was given a reception on its arrival here on Wednesday by a large number of workers. TREKKING: A batch of about 40 students are taking part in mountaineering and trekking activities near Manali from June 15 to 28. TARN TARAN BOOKED: The police has registered a case under Sections 363 and 366, IPC, against Sukhdev Raj, alias Baga, and Gurdev Raj, alias Gudda, of the nearby Walipur village for abducting a teenaged girl of the same village. The father of the girl had lodged a complaint. NOMINATED: Capt Amarinder Singh, President, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), has nominated Master Jagir Singh, former minister, Punjab, as Vice -chairman of the 51-member committee constituted for agriculture and farm sector. Ms Lakhwinder Kaur Garcha, General Secretary, PPCC, in a press release issued here on Tuesday said that the first meeting of the committee would be held in Punjab Congress Bhavan, Chandigarh on June 23 and would be chaired by Capt Amarinder Singh. ONE KILLED: Ranjit Singh (22), of Joura village died on the spot in an accident near Jandoke Sarhali village on Monday when the scooter he was riding hit a standing truck. FATEHABAD HISAR ARRESTED: The police has arrested two persons, Om Prakash and Naphe Singh, for smuggling poppy husk and seized 5 kg of contraband from them. PROTEST: Residents of the local Patel Nagar demonstrated in front of the Rajgarh road power station on Wednesday to protest against the disruption of power supply to the colony. The angry mob also gheraoed the residences of senior officials of the DHBVN located inside the station. BANDH CALL: Traders of Barwala town have decided to close their business establishments on June 27 to protest against the deteriorating law and order situation in the town. They alleged that criminal activities were on the rise and the police had failed to check it. LIVESTOCK SHOW: Addressing the concluding function of a three-day orientation programme for Master Trainers at the Haryana Veterinary Training Institute here on Wednesday, Mr H.C. A case has been registered. SONEPAT SUICIDE: A young housewife, Sunita, reportedly committed suicide by consuming insecticide tablets in her house at Butana village, 40 km from here, on Wednesday. A land dispute was reported to be the reason behind the suicide. 1 KILLED: An aged man was hit and killed by the Shatabadi Express at the Ganaur railway station, 16 km from here, on Wednesday. According to the Railway Police, the victim was crossing a railway track when the accident occurred. YOUTH ASSAULTED: A youth, Rajinder, was allegedly attacked by his two relatives at Bhainswan Khurd village, 40 km from here, on Wednesday. According to a report, he was hospitalised and stated to be out of danger. NOTICES SERVED: The Country and Town Planning Department has served notices on the residents of five unauthorised colonies asking them to demolish their illegal structures on their own, otherwise the department would take action after the expiry of the stipulated period. According to sources, the colonies — Shiv Colony, Rajiv Colony, Vikas Nagar and a colony behind Atul Nursery — are situated on the Sonepat-Murthal road. MEMORANDUM: Residents of Kheri Gujjar village on Thursday sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, demanding a high-level probe into the alleged felling of trees, worth several lakhs of rupees, by a contractor. It alleged that the woman sarpanch of the village, to save herself from penal action, had imposed Rs 10,000 fine on the contractor. CLEANLINESS DRIVE: A cleanliness campaign, launched by the Sonepat Municipal Council, continued for the fourth day in different parts of the city on Thursday. According to a report, the workers removed garbage and filth from the areas of the eight-marla colony, bus stand, subzi mandi, Jatwara Mohalla and Ashok Nagar. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr S.N. REGIONAL POTPOURRI Chinar tree at Fatehgarh Sahib! People think that chinar is confined to great heights only. Sometime ago a report published in The Tribune talked about the fact that foresters have successfully grown the majestic chinar trees in Shimla which sits at a height of 6,000 feet. The saplings were brought from Kashmir; the valley is the place where these beautiful trees have been confined all these years. Simranjit Singh Mann, MP, has sent us a picture of a chinar growing at his house in Quila Harnam Singh Tallania village, district Fatehgarh Sahib. According to Mann, his house at Quila Harnam Singh is situated at a height of about 800 ft above sea level. “I received a small sapling from Kashmir valley about 5 years ago,” says Mann. What’s amazing is that the chinar has successfully adapted itself to this change in its environment. In a short span of 5 years, the tree has gained a good height in the plains. As Mann informs, his Quila Harnam is also home to a beautiful walnut tree. 98 p.c. in Hindi Having secured 98 per cent marks, highest in the country, in Hindi in the 10th class examination of the CBSE, Stuti Arya has fixed the target for herself to become an IAS officer after her higher studies. Belonging to a literary family has also broken all previous records of the Central School, Shimla, by securing nearly 90 per cent marks in her overall result which got her the first position. Although she plans to study medical subjects, but does not want to become a doctor. She says it was the sole effort and guidance of teachers which had made her earn the distinction. She is not only excellent in studies, but also takes interest in sports and has represented the school at regional level in table tennis. Facelift to hospital The Central Khalsa Hospital run by the Chief Khalsa Diwan in Tarn Taran, was established in 1915. The hospital is a pioneer medical institution in the area. Between 1930 and 1990 people from places like Kapurthala, Ferozepore used to come here for free treatment. Earlier the hospital was known for eye surgery. Regular donations enabled the hospital authorities to provide free services. After 1990 the institution faced acute financial and other problems. The Chief Khalsa Diwan has decided to equip the hospital with facilities for carrying out laparoscopic surgery of galbladder, hernia, appendix, kidney stone and diseases of uterus and extra- carporeal shock wave therapy — TURP treatment of prostate and kidney stone. Mr Harbans Singh Kairon, honorary secretary of the hospital committee, has said the management would organise Rs 40 lakh for the purpose. Donors were coming forward to contribute for the cause. |
