Lecture on asthma on June 16

Ludhiana, June 14
The Health Education Cell of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital will organise the 25th public health lecture on asthma — prevention and home care on June 16 at Dumra Auditorium, DMCH. The lecture will be delivered by Dr S. K. Jindal, Head, Chest Department, PGI, Chandigarh.

Dr Jindal will speak on asthma, its causes, symptoms and treatment available for it. He will also throw light on the home care given to the patients of asthma. The lecture will be followed by an interactive session.

AIDS awareness fortnight

AIDS awareness fortnight is being observed by the Health Department to bring family health awareness in the district. According to an official press release here yesterday, one such camp was held at R.C.Haibowal Kalan, which was inaugurated by Ms Manjit Kaur Gogi, councillor (SAD, Badal).

Dr Neelam Chand Bassi, District Family Welfare Officer, stressed the need of clean environment. “Keeping in view the spread of contagious diseases, chlorinated water should be used. Pits should be properly covered and sprayed with DDT and black oil”, said Dr Bassi.

SHSAD leader gives grant for development work

Mr Sukhdev Singh Libra, member, Rajya Sabha, (SHSAD), toured villages of the Amloh Assembly segment and distributed cheques on the spot for various development works the last week.

According to a press note issued here yesterday by Mr Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, member, SGPC, cheques worth Rs 1 lakh given for a school, Rs 50,000 for primary health centre’s repair to Mullanpur, Rs 1 lakh to primary school, Badinpur, Rs 40,000 for the Circular Road, Rs 35,000 for cremation ground’s shed to Jalalpur village panchayat. A sum of Rs 50000 for retaining a boundary wall, Rs 1.50 lakh for sheds of Tangrala village, Rs 30,000 for Ramdasia Dharamshala, Rs 15,000 for sports club of Saliani village. Announcements for more grants was also made for development works in about 12 other villages.

In the press note, it was alleged that sangat darshan programmes organised by Mr Parkash Singh Badal were another burden on the people of the state whereas the grants distributed in those programmes were given from the loans taken from banks, which would be returned by imposing more taxes on the people in the coming days. Why such darshans were not organised in the past four and a half years, Mr Libra asked in his speeches made at different gatherings in the villages.

Mr Jassa Singh Ahluwalia has demanded an inquiry into a fraud case of Gurdwara Keshgarh Sahib and demanded action against the persons involved in the scandal.

Among others who spoke at these meetings included Mr Ajaib Singh Jakhwali, president, district Youth Akali Dal, Mr Kahla Singh Baini, circle president, Mr Paramjit Singh Khanian, vice-president, district unit, Ms Dhanwant Kaur, former chairperson, Block Samiti, Amloh and Mr Jarnail Singh Swaich, former vice-president, Municipal Council, Amloh.
