Parents protest against inadequate facilities

Ludhiana, June 14
Protesting against inadequate infrastructural facilities at Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School, Rahon Road, parents of the students staged a dharna outside the school today.

The parents said that their children were facing risk of contracting several diseases as they were made to drink contaminated water. A huge block of the school building where the children were attending their classes was unsafe, they added. The parents also complained about improper ventilation, inadequate seating and light arrangements which further worsened the situation for the students.

The parents said that the students were being charged annual fund for generator, which was never used during the power cuts. The parents also said no summer break had been announced for their children who had to bear the scorching heat while commuting.

Later, the parents met the management and presented their demands which comprised provision for proper infrastructure, fee concession for orphans, fellowships for children from Schedules Castes and taking parents in the management committees.

Mr Rajeev Malhotra, president, Lok Sangharsh Forum, also appealed to the management to ensure adequate facilities for the students.

An overdose of transfers

Doraha, June 14
Within four years of its inception, Mata Ganga Khalsa College, Manji Sahib, Kottan, which is run by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, has got four principals. Dr Paramjit Kaur Tiwana, the founder Principal took over on July, 15, 1997, and continued till August 30, 2000, when she was transferred to Mata Sahib Kaur Girls College, Talwandi Sabo.

Dr Majinder Kaur, the next principal, continued till April 11, 2001.

Then again Dr Tiwana was brought back to Mata Ganga Khalsa College, On April 23, 2001. And now after merely two months, Dr Tiwana has again been issued transfer orders for Mata Sahib Kaur Girls College, Talwandi Sabo, on June 6, 2001, and Dr Manjinder Kaur has been called back to join Mata Ganga Khalsa College.

Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi could not be contacted in spite of repeated efforts.
