PSIEC, MC lock horns over waterworks site
Tribune News Service

SAS Nagar, June 14
A waterworks station in Phase IX of the Industrial Area has become a bone of contention between the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) and the SAS Nagar civic body.

While the civic body has decided to construct a cattle pond at the site, the PSIEC has carved out at least five industrial plots of different size. Officials of the civic body said the site was in the possession of the MC for the past eight years ever since the maintenance of the industrial area was handed over to it. The civic body has constructed two staff quarters, an overhead tank and a tubewell at the site.

The overhead tank was being used to supply water to the industrial area. Mr Kulwant Singh, President of the civic body said, “We have been looking after the site since 1992 after the area was handed over to the civic body by the PSIEC. We have already sanctioned funds to construct the boundary wall of a cattle pond”.

He said they had taken up the matter with the PSIEC authorities. Showing a layout plan of the site, an official of the engineering wing of the civic body said five plots had been carved out.

It could, however, not be confirmed whether the physical possession of the plot had been handed over to the allottee. An employee of the civic body at the waterworks confirmed that some employees of the PSIEC had come for demarcation.

A similar case of the Punjab State Electronics Development Electronic and Production Corporation earmarking plots at a waterworks site in ELTOP area of Phase VIII has also come to light.
