Salaries take the lion’s share of PU budget

House tax assessment survey soon
50 per cent concession for residential areas
Panchkula, March 21
Survey work for assessment of house tax within the limits of the Municipal Council of Panchkula will begin in the last week of March. To be completed in three months, it will be done at a rate of 10 per cent of the annual value of buildings and limits of the municipality.

After much deliberation regarding the jurisdiction for registering a case of assault, the Chandigarh Police registered a case against three unidentified persons of Chandigarh Mayor’s group after more than 24 hours here today.

Nora Kanane Corbusier’s style fails to impress French student

The Indian education system at the university level is certainly more interactive than the French education system, said Nora Kanane of Nantes University, France currently studying history and architecture of Chandigarh in the city. Nora, who chose Le Corbusier’s brainchild Chandigarh as the topic for her pre doctorate, is studying history and architecture of the city from 1947 to 1966 under the guidance of Dr Ms Kamlesh Mohan of the History Department, Panjab University.

Coming down heavily on Punjab’s Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies Ajit Singh Khera for acting in an unfair manner after apparently “dancing to the tune of his political masters”, Mr Justice Mehtab Singh Gill of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed him to personally pay Rs 16,000 as compensation to eight society members.

The UT Additional Sessions Judge, Mr R.C. Godara, today granted anticipatory bail to Happy in a case of assault and criminal intimidation. The case against the accused was registered under Sections 323, 506, 34 of the IPC on March 11, at the Sector 39 police station.

HC issues notice of motion in ZP poll case

On a petition for quashing the notification declaring Shimla Devi and Sohan Lal as the president and the vice-president of Panchkula Zila Parishad, Mr Justice Amar Bir Singh Gill and Mr Justice R.C. Kathuria of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notice of motion for May 3.
