SAS NAGAR, March 1 — In a major breakthrough the local police arrested Ved Parkash, Executive Director (ED) of Punwire, from near the old barrier in Phase 1 here last night. He had been arrested on charges of fraud, misappropriation and embezzlement committed by him during his tenure as ED.

CHANDIGARH, March 1 — To reduce congestion on the busy Chandigarh-Panchkula road, the UT Engineering Department has started laying an additional route towards Panchkula on a war-footing to ease the vehicular traffic on this stretch of road.

CHANDIGARH, March 1 — The general court martial trying Major Maneesh Bhatnagar today disallowed the defence submission seeking two witnesses. The court declined to summon GOC 14 Corps, Lt-Gen Arjun Ray, and the Assistant Adjutant General, 14 Corps, whom the defence wanted to examine in support of its plea seeking a bar on the trial.

Anupinder wins medal round
CHANDIGARH, March 1 — Anupinder Grewal was declared winner of the monthly medal round of the Chandigarh Golf Club while Vikram Singh was declared runner-up. Both had returned cards of 80, but Anupinder Grewal was declared winner on the basis of a better score on the back nine.
