Forum fines transport company
LUDHIANA, Feb 1 — The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed M/s Patel Roadways Ltd, a local transport company, to pay the balance payment of Rs 8,033 along with the interest of 18 per cent per annum to M/s Max Knitwares.

Skating-rink, subways planned for city
LUDHIANA, Feb 1 — The Municipal Corporation has drawn up elaborate plans for strengthening the infrastructure and beautification of the city and the residents can look forward to have a skating-rink and subways for pedestrian in the near future.

Night mail service commences
LUDHIANA, Feb 1 — The Department of Posts has started its night mail service scheme in the state with effect from today. The first lot of night mail was received at 12 midnight at Railway Mail Service here today, which was later dispatched for other cities at around 2 am.

 

Kalkat for crop diversification
LUDHIANA, Feb 1 — Dr Gurcharan Singh Kalkat, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, Ludhiana, emphatically said that for survival it is necessary for Punjab to bring down area under rice from the present 65 lakh acres to 40 lakh acres by diverting 25 lakh acres to alternative crops like groundnut, maize, oilseeds, pulses, fruits, vegetables and forestry.

Acid thrown on youth
LUDHIANA, Feb 1 — A 20-year-old youth received serious burn injuries here today, when two unidentified persons threw acid on his face, apparently out of personal enmity.
