Cong not to spare erring leaders ROHTAK, Jan 27 — Taking a serious view of ‘infighting’ in the Congress, the party high command has decided to take strict disciplinary action against the erring leaders irrespective of their stature. Mr Moti Lal Vora, General Secretary, All-India Congress Committee and in charge of party affairs in Haryana, in a letter written to the HPCC chief, Mr Bhupender Singh Hooda, on January 24, said no leader, irrespective of his stature, should be allowed to issue press statements against another leader or the party policies, the letter said no leader should be allowed to organise any individual rally and that all rallies should be organised under the banner of PCC. Besides, the letter forbade the leaders to air their grievances to the media. The letter suggested that any party worker or leader violating the above norms should be dealt with strictly and disciplinary action be taken against him. Mr Vora also suggested to Mr Hooda that the PCC should organise workshops for party men at regular intervals to discuss policy matters or differences, if any, within the party. He said the AICC would nominate senior leaders as observers at such workshops. According to political observers, the much publicised rally to be organised by a former Chief Minister, Mr Bhajan Lal, in Hisar on March 4, is now uncertain in view of this letter. However, Mr Krishan Murti Hooda, a former minister and a close associate of Mr Bhajan Lal announced that the proposed rally would certainly be held under the banner of the Congress as it was aimed at strengthening the party. He alleged directions of Mr Vora were intentionally
interpreted in a wrong manner by the HPCC chief. He said Mr Bhajan Lal had been a Chief Minister for nearly 12 years and also been a member of the Congress Working Committee. At present, he said Mr Bhajan Lal was the leader of party legislators. He claimed Mr Bhajan Lal was much ahead of the HPCC chief in hierarchy. Meanwhile, addressing a press conference here yesterday the HPCC chief predicted the fall of the Chautala government. He said the countdown had started and the government would collapse in three months. He said resentment prevailed among the employees, farmers, traders and students against the “anti-people” policies of the government which had faced the “rebellious tone” of the masses in nearby Gaddi Kheri village recently where the villagers had started hooting when the Chief Minister was about to address them. Mr Hooda alleged that the people were overburdened by the house and professional taxes. he said the party would oppose the imposition of these taxes inside and outside the Assembly and the party activists would gherao the Assembly during the Budget session. The Congress leader said the state Chief Minister had promised withdrawal of additional taxes imposed during the prohibition. But in place of withdrawing the said taxes the government had imposed more fresh taxes. He sought a White Paper in this connection and on the government property in Delhi. Commenting on the government’s scheme to set up old age homes in villages he said it was against the Indian culture and traditions. He alleged the move was launched only to gain cheap popularity. He announced that a rashtriya kisan rally would be held in Delhi on February, 22 which would be addressed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. |

Make Jhajjar-Delhi calls local: residents ROHTAK, Jan 27 — The denial of the local call facility between Jhajjar and Delhi has caused resentment among the subscribers of Jhajjar, situated on the border of Delhi. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has introduced the facility between Delhi and selected towns of the National Capital Region (NCR) from January 26. The towns which benefited from the BSNL policy include Rohtak, Rewari, Panipat and Palwal. Faridabad, Gurgaon, Sonepat and Bahadurgarh are already
enjoying this facility for the past many years. But, the BSNL appears to have ignored the fact that Jhajjar was a stone’s throw from Delhi. Hundreds of residents of Jhajjar and its adjoining villages are working in Delhi. The Haryana Roadways runs a daily bus-service between Jhajjar and Central Secretariat in Delhi for daily commuters. Bahadurgarh, which forms a part of the Jhajjar district, was provided with the local call facility to Delhi many years ago, the subscribers at Jhajjar were expecting to get this facility from the Republic Day. Moreover, Jhajjar is being considered as a potential industrial town after uprooting of the industrial units from Delhi under the directives of the Supreme Court. Besides Jhajjar, few other towns that form part of the National Capital Region (NCR) have also been denied the local call facility to Delhi. These towns include Sampla, Gohana, Meham, Kalanaur and Kharkhauda. Gohana and Meham are important sub-divisional towns in the Sonepat and Rohtak districts, respectively. |
