Situation in Panur tense
KANNUR (KERALA), Jan 3 (PTI) — The situation in the volatile Panur area in the district, where fresh violence broke out on Monday killing one and injuring 17, was “tense” but under control, the police said. The deceased, Prasanth, was the prime accused in a bomb attack on Thalassery Assistant Superintendent of Police S. Sreejith in September last year and also one of the main suspects in the attempt made on Tirur Dy SP K. Suberan’s life.

Property gutted
TEZPUR (ASSAM), Jan 3 (UNI) — A devastating fire broke out at a busy commercial area of Dhekiajuli town in Sonitpur district early today gutting at least 10 business establishments and damaging property worth over Rs 1.5 crore. According to fire brigade sources, fire tenders from Tezpur, Rangapara, Kharuputia and Mangaldoi fought for three hours to extinguish the blaze, the cause of which is yet to be ascertained. No one was, however, injured.

Ranchi curfew 
RANCHI, Jan 3 (UNI) — Curfew has been relaxed in the city from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. today following improvement in the law and order situation over the past 24 hours.
