Works rich in content
Tribune News Service

CHANDIGARH, Jan 3 — It was yet another day of aesthetic might at the art gallery of the Government College of Art, Sector 10, where artist Ashwani Kumar Verma opened his water colour works to the public today.

The first thing that struck the eye was the freedom of works from all academic limitations. At least that is what the usage of colours and the depiction of form on canvas portrayed. As such a wonderfully free medium, the beauty of water colours was further enhanced by the theme of natural beauty which seems to inspire the artist. His exhibition, which will remain open till January 10, has been brought to the city by the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala.

The works can well be called classic, in that they instantly appeal to the senses and seem to form a rapport with the person in us. Nature has been captured in all its splendor, and all the wonderful hues that make the creation so attractive find a respectable place in the canvases of Ashwani.

Majestic hills on the one hand and the beauty of plains on the other, both have been captured with equal intensity. The works are also quite rich in line and content and near perfect in composition despite the fact that the medium is also unpredictable.

The exhibition was very well-attended today with artists like Prof Prem Singh, Principal, Government College of Art, gracing the occasion. A photo artist, Dr Dev Inder, inaugurated the exhibition.
