Alankar Memorial Tournament

SAMRALA, Dec 24 — The eighth annual three-day Alankar (Tony) Memorial Tournament of the Malwa Sports Association concluded here today.

The tournament included, bullock-cart races, kabaddi matches and dog races. Mr Harbhajan Singh, Chairman, Punjab State Transporter Association, inaugurated the festival and Mr Charanjeet Singh Atwal Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, gave away the prizes to the winners, Jathedar Kirpal Singh Khirnian, member SGPC, presided over the function.

Mr Devi Dayal Sharma, an international kabaddi player, regaled the audience with his remarkable commentary during the festival. In Kabaddi All Open Show match, PSEB stood first and Jalandhar Academy stood second. In kabaddi (girls) match, the Punjab team stood first and the Haryana team stood second. Out of 45 bullock carts, the bullock cart of Mr Bela Singh Delhon, stood first and Mr Pritam Singh's, second. In weightlifting (All Open), Mr Kamaljit Singh of the BSF stood first and Mr Sharanjeet Singh stood second. In the 94-kg category, Mr Sherpartap Singh of Khanna stood first and Mr Kamaljit Singh of Ludhiana was declared second. In the 77-kg category, first position was bagged by Mr Nazar Singh (Punjab Police) and second by Mr Bachittar Singh of Ludhiana. In the 62-kg category, Mr Vickey Butta of Khanna stood first and Mr Ramandeep of Khanna stood second.

Inter-school cricket

LUDHIANA, Dec 24 — Fine batting by Parveen and Jassi enabled Government Model Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University, to register a 44-run win over Sargodha National Public School in the second match of the Parle-G PCA Inter-School Cricket Tournament being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association at the PAU cricket ground, here today.

Earlier, Mr Inderjit Singh of Amco International inaugurated the match.

After winning the toss, GMSS, PAU, opted to bat first and scored 165 for 7 in the stipulated 35 overs. Parveen top scored with 66 runs, followed by Jassi and Jagdeep, who contributed 32 and 20 runs, respectively. For Sargodha National Public School, Lucky captured three wickets for 22 runs while Dimpy got two for 28.

Chasing a target of 166, Sargodha National Public School were all out for 121. Gurpreet scored 30, while Damandeep scored 16. For PAU school, Gurwinkal and Vikas took two wickets each for 25 and 11 runs, respectively.
