Navpreet makes record
in shot put SAHNEWAL, Dec 18 — Navpreet Singh of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, has became the university’s record-breaker in the shot put. Navpreet made his record in the Panjab University Athletics Meet held in the university grounds on December 13. He broke the record by scoring 17.58 metre as against the earlier record of 17 metre. Earlier, he has also surpassed the previous inter-varsity record of 17.13 metre. Now he is preparing for the coming inter-varsity competitions scheduled to be held at Amritsar. He has secured a silver medal for India in the Asian Junior Track and Field events in Bangkok. He has also represented India in the World Junior Championship held at France. |
Ravi, Heena win carrom
championship LUDHIANA, Dec 18 — Ravi and Heena Narang won the carrom championship in the SMD School Indoor Sports Festival held here today. Harsh Kishore and Lovely Kataria won the chess championship in the senior boys’ and girls’ categories. The other results are as follows: carrom: sub-junior boys (doubles): Abhineet Godyal and Sahil Malhotra 1 and Amit Purthi and Tannia Bansal 2; senior boys (doubles): Kamal Tandon and Munish Kapoor 1 and Gaurav Chopra and Bhuvan Singla 2; senior girls (doubles): Gaytri Manocha and Silky Dhawan 1 and Preeti Grover and Savita Sharma 2. Traffic safety week KHANNA, Dec 18 — The Khanna district police will organise a traffic safety week next month to educate the public about traffic rules. Mr R.N. Dhoke, SSP, Khanna, said here, today, that violation of traffic rules was increasing day by day causing accidents that claimed many human lives daily amounting to national loss worth crores of rupees. He said the traffic safety week will start with a function to be attended by senior police officers and traffic experts. During the week, a special programme to educate school and college students will be organised. Traffic policemen had already been directed to identify traffic violation zones and re-paint all traffic signs. The traffic lights were also being repaired to help run a smooth traffic, he added. |
