Encroachment drive in full swing
From Bijendra Ahlawat

FARIDABAD, Oct 13 — The ongoing demolition drive, which is in full swing these days, is likely to continue longer than the stipulated period. The authorities are leaving no stone unturned to get the encroached land back whose value runs into hundreds of crores.

The authorities which had expected the removal of a majority of encroachments in both rural and urban areas have to extend the tentative schedule. It is learnt that about a week’s extension has been given for completion of the work in the urban sectors of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).

The drive could even run longer as the problem of encroachments is much more serious than expected. According to HUDA officials work had gained momentum in the past two months and encroachments on several acres of lands, including prime property, industrial plots, parks, passages and residential areas which had been encroached upon had been removed successfully. Some of the plots were valued at over a crore.

Several shops which had been constructed illegally in Sectors 7 and 10 were demolished recently by the HUDA authorities. It is reported that these shops were built illegally and had decreased the value of the shops-cum-flats constructed by HUDA. Hundreds of these shops were still functioning as their owners had got stay orders from the court.

Similarly, the authorities could not take action against owners of such shops or commercial points working illegally in residential areas due to this reason in other sectors, including Sectors 16, 28, 29 and 30. The HUDA bulldozer took no time in removing a temple building being constructed in Sector 28. It was under construction and was built in a plot meant for a primary school building. The demolition team also removed several structures in the fruit market of Sector 29 and recovered land for a park there on Friday.

While resentment prevails among local residents over the drive, the authorities claim notices had been served before the demolition drive. According to Mr Vijayender Kumar, HUDA Administrator here, his department had been able to recover several acres of prime land valued at hundreds of crores. He said the drive in HUDA sectors was likely to achieve its target very soon, as he claimed that officials had been working overtime to accomplish the herculean task.

Meanwhile, the municipal corporation and the district authorities have also been continuing the anti-encroachment drive in all urban, semi-urban and rural pockets. According to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anand Mohan Sharan, despite some hurdles the work had been going on uninterruptedly. He said hundreds of acres of land occupied illegally had been recovered in villages and towns. He said “phirnis” (passages) in nearly all villages had been recovered in the district.

Rail crossing major bottleneck
From Our Correspondent

HISAR, Oct 13 — The railway crossing near Jindal Strips Ltd on Delhi Road has become a major traffic bottleneck as it is closed several times a day for long duration.

This is the busiest road in the town with thousands of vehicles passing through the railway crossing daily en route to Delhi or Hansi and all army vehicles using this road to and from the cantonment. As a result a long queue of vehicles on both sides of the crossing are a regular feature whenever the crossing is closed.

The crossing divides the big Industrial Area into two parts and trucks and trainers of these units are usually parked along the road near the crossing. Drivers of maxi-cabs have also started parking their jeeps on the road near the crossing.

About a dozen trains pass through the crossing daily. As per practice, the crossing is closed when any train approaches Hisar or leaves Hansi half an hour away.

The railway track too ties at an awkward angle. Residents have been demanding construction of a flyover for the last several years saying two flyovers constructed on the road near Madhuban Park and the Dabra Chowk are of little help since the traffic is held up at this crossing .
