17 killed as bus plunges into river
SILIGURI, Sept 10 (PTI) — Seventeen persons were killed and many more feared drowned when an overcrowded private bus plunged off a national highway into the Teesta river near Sevoke in north Bengal today. Thirteen persons were critically injured in the accident which took place 20 km from here. Seventeen bodies, including those of two girls and an elderly woman, had been recovered so far, West Bengal Minister for Urban Development Ashok Bhattacharjee, who is supervising rescue operations, told PTI.

11 drowned in Bihar
PATNA, Sept 10 (UNI) — At least 11 persons were killed when a boat capsized midstream in the swollen Tilyuga river in Madhubani district of Bihar last night. State Home Commissioner U.N. Panjiyar said here today the bodies of three women had been fished out so far. He said altogether 35 persons were on the boat when the mishap happened. He said 24 others swam to safety.
