KANGOO (Mandi), June 5 — The Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, has expressed grave concern over the continuing degradation of environment and warned that indiscriminate development would spell disaster for the country in the long run.

Speight threatens to kill hostages
SUVA, June 5 — Fiji coup leader George Speight warned today he would shoot his 31 hostages, including Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry, if the military attempted to force its way into parliament where they were being held.

58 killed in Sumatra quake
JAKARTA, June 5 — At least 58 persons were killed and hundreds injured after a massive earthquake measuring up to 7.9 on the Richter scale and several powerful aftershocks, hit the Indonesian island of Sumatra last night.

BBMB to augment power capacity
Chandigarh, June 5 — Power generation capacity of hydro electric projects run by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), including the Bhakra dam and the Pong dam, is to be upgraded under the second phase of a Centrally-sponsored scheme.
