Summer coaching camp begins CHANDIGARH, June 5 The annual summer coaching camp in various sport disciplines, organised by UT Sports Department, began here today at various sport centres of the city. Nearly 550 trainees in different age groups, not exceeding 19 years, from various schools of the city are attending the camp, which will end on June 22. The idea of the camp was to give personalised attention to the trainees by working on their weak points, according to one of the coaches attached with the camp. The anxious parents could be seen making rounds at the centres to see the kind of training being provided there. Though vacations were on, the training was in evening hours only. The diet money of Rs 15 per day per trainee will be given. A sum of Rs 1.5 lakh would be spent on this, revealed officials of the department. Such conditioning camps should be held at any nearby hill station for enhancing endurance power, felt one of the parents, who was a national-level sportsman. He cited the example of a summer coaching camp being organised by Punjab at Sundernagar for young children in primary and secondary section from June 3 to 23. SSB to replace
MPSAF in city CHANDIGARH, Six companies of the MPSAF are currently performing static guard duties and guarding vital installations in and around the city. They will be completely deinducted by next week and will be replaced by the SSB. Besides vital installations, the personnel are guarding the High Court, judges residences and the RBI, in addition to being posted at the houses of certain VIPs. According to police sources, the companies, nearly 850 men will be drawn from battalions posted at Dharampur and Kullu. A senior officer from the SSB was in the city today to meet local police officers to know about the arrangements and the nature of duties to be performed by them. The companies will be headed by DSPs and will be under the command of a Commandant. The SSB had done a tour of duty in the city nearly a decade ago. Each company has approximately 139 personnel. Sources said the companies of the MPSAF had been recalled by the State Government and were likely to be inducted in anti-dacoity operations. The force was specially raised to combat dacoits in the state. |
Estimates for village roads okayed CHANDIGARH, With its approval, the internal roads of Attawa and Butrela villages would be strengthened at a cost of Rs 5 lakh each, whereas an amount of Rs 12 lakh had been recommended to the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) for the recarpeting of roads in Badheri village. An amount of Rs 16 lakh had been recommended for the recarpeting of roads in Burail village. The committee gave its nod to the Roads Division to recarpet various V-4 roads in Sectors 15, 27 and 28. Similarly, it was decided to strengthen the V-5 roads in Sectors 15 and 28, besides recarpeting certain V-6 roads in Sectors 15 and 27. At a meeting of the Apni Mandi Committee, it was recommended that charges be levied on dealers of the second hands vehicles who do sale and purchase of vehicles on the municipal land. The Assistant Commissioner-II, Mr Ashwani Kumar, was urged to get the survey of these markets done and send complete information to the F&CC. The committee felt that all requests pertaining to the booking of municipal land for holding functions should be entertained by it. The committee urged the agencies concerned to lay more emphasis on sanitation and cleanliness of the sites being used for holding apni mandis. Keeping in view the menace of the vendors selling exposed items, it urged Mr Ashwani Kumar, who is also holding the charge of the Municipal Secretary, to get cleared these mandis of the unscrupulous vendors. |
