PUDA, UT to set up joint sewage treatment plant
SAS NAGAR, April 28 — Bowing to the pressure of the Punjab Pollution Control Board, the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority and the UT Administration have finally agreed to set up a combined sewage treatment plant at a site located near the Kharar- Banur road.

PANCHKULA, April 28 — A theft of items worth Rs 80,000 comprising gold jewellery and watches was reported from a house in Sector 8 last night. However, no clue to the identity of the intruders was available.

3 held for gambling in public
CHANDIGARH, April 28 — The police has arrested three persons for gambling at a public place. According to police sources, Madal Lal of Sector 24 was arrested from Sector 17, while Balwinder Kumar and Jagdish Singh of Badheri village were arrested from Sector 41.

Sector 47 resident assaulted
CHANDIGARH, April 28 — A Sector 47 resident, Chander Parkash was injured and admitted to a hospital when three unidentified youths allegedly hit him on the head with an iron rod here tonight.

Chatrath bar body chief
CHANDIGARH, April 28 — Elated crowd of advocates broke into a frenzy as a former Punjab Advocate General, Mr Gopal Krishan Chatrath, was elected the President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association here after defeating his nearest rival, Mr G.C. Dhuriwala, by 134 votes.

HC order on power to plot allottees
CHANDIGARH, April 28 — The Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the UT Administration, the Chandigarh Housing Board and the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh to provide electricity and water to "individual allottees of the plots within a period of six weeks from the date of the submission of certified copy of the order".

Stay in club membership case
CHANDIGARH, April 28 — In a suit filed here by Mr Charan Mann, challenging the decision of the Chandigarh Golf Club to keep his membership in abeyance, a city court today granted an ex parte stay.

CHANDIGARH, April 28 — Mr Braham Prakash, senior faculty member of the local Government College of Art, has been nominated by the Lalit Kala Akademi as the regional commissioner for Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.

2,000 kids take part in sport carnival
CHANDIGARH, April 28 — It was carnival sport time at the St John's High School, Sector 26, where nearly 2,000 students of 31 schools of city and its periphery participated. The carnival sport was part of the two-day meet organised by Tetra Pak.

Amritsar boys beat Delhi
CHANDIGARH, April 28 — Amritsar beat Delhi by five wickets in an under-14 cricket tournament in the PCA Stadium at SAS Nagar today. In another match of the day, Jalandhar defeated Patiala by 86 runs.

Section 144 imposed
CHANDIGARH, April 28 — To provide security for the proposed meeting of the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat, the Sub Divisional Magistrate, South, Mr Ashish Kundra, has imposed a ban on the assembly of five or more persons , raising slogans, making speeches, sitting in dharna, carrying of lathis and weapons within 200 metres from boundary wall of the venue of the meeting.

Sector 43 ISBT opens today
CHANDIGARH, April 28 — The second Inter-State Bus Terminus in Sector 43 will be formally inaugurated by the UT Administrator, Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob (retd), at 10.30 am tomorrow. He will flag off a bus to officially make the ISBT functional.Top
