2,000 kids take part in
sport carnival CHANDIGARH, April 28 It was carnival sport time at the St John's High School, Sector 26, where nearly 2,000 students of 31 schools of city and its periphery participated. The carnival sport was part of the two-day meet organised by Tetra Pak. Students in colourful sport kits took part in races and tennis-ball-cricket matches. Boys in the above-eight age group played tennis-ball-cricket matches of two overs each. In this event, St Soldier's School won the first position, while the second place went to Shivalik Public School, SAS Nagar. Hansraj Public School, Sector 6, Panchkula, and St Stephen's School, Panchkula, stood joint third. The children also enjoyed the company of model Manpreet Brar who was present on the occasion. She said it was nice to be in the company of children and they should always remain physically active. The relay race for the senior girls was won by St Anne's School, Sector 32 (team A). The second place went to St Stephen's School, Sector 45, and the third to St Soldier's School (team A). In the junior girls' relay races, St Soldier Public School (team B) won the first position, Carmel Convent School (team B) the second and Little Flower School (team A) the third. The schools which took part in today's outdoor events include Shivalik Public School, SAS Nagar and Sector 41-D; Sanjay Public School, Panchkula, Sector 41 and Sector 44; St Xavier's, Ajit Karam Singh International Public School, Sector 41; Vivek High School, Sector 38; MRA School; Sharda Sarvhitkari School; Stepping Stones School; Tender Heart, Sector 33; Manav Mangal School; St Joseph's School; Bhavan Vidyalaya; Carmel Convent; CL Aggarwal DAV School, Panchkula; DAV Public School, Sector 8; St John's School, Sector 26; Yadavindra Public School, SAS Nagar; PML SD Public School, Sector 32; St Soldier's School; St Anne's Sector 32, St Kabir School, Sector 26; St Stephen's School, Panchkula; Saupins School; Little Flower School, Panchkula; Hansraj Public School, Panchkula; and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Meanwhile, some of the parents of the participating students complained that children between the ages of five and seven were given Real Fruit (orange flavour) packs by one of the sponsors today and yesterday on the school premises. They said this encouraged children to prefer preservative drinks to natural ones, which was harmful for their throats. Tomorrow, in-house
events will be organised at YPS, SAS Nagar, where famous
quizmaster Derek O' Brien will also be present. |

Section 144 imposed CHANDIGARH, April 28 To provide security for the proposed meeting of the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat (RSS), the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) South, Mr Ashish Kundra, has imposed a ban on the assembly of five or more persons , raising slogans, making speeches, sitting in dharna, carrying of lathis and weapons within 200 metres from boundary wall of the venue of the meeting. The order imposed under
Section 144 of the Cr P.C shall came into force today and
will remain effective till Sunday. The venue of the
meeting is the Sharda Sarvhitkari School, Sector 40. In
the order the SDM has held that certain groups and
organisations have planned to organise rallies , dharnas
and various other agitational methods in view of the RSS
meet. |

ISBT opens today CHANDIGARH, April 28 The second Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Sector 43 will be formally inaugurated by the UT Administrator, Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob (retd), at 10.30 am tomorrow. He will flag off a bus to officially make the ISBT functional. The bus stand will cater
to buses leaving for Himachal Pradesh and parts of
Punjab. |
