Bypass for Kangra with NABARD
aid DHARAMSALA, Feb 12 With the assistance of NABARD, the Public Works Department has decided to construct a bypass for Kangra town, so as to minimise traffic hazards. The Chief Engineer (North), Mr K.L. Mahajan, said here today that the Kangra bypass scheme was one of the three projects cleared by NABARD for the district. The scheme estimated at Rs 1.25 crore will not only help in reducing the traffic hazards in the main town, but will give a boost to agricultural production as it will touch a number of villages," he stated. The road will be called the Old Kangra-Kachhiari road. Mr Mahajan said during the past two years Kangra district had witnessed improvement in the road network apart from construction of new roads, especially in rural areas. In Kangra district the total length of motorable roads was 3902 kilometres out of which 1860 was pucca and 2042 kuchha. As the guidelines of the government, a 141 km road length was tarred during 1998-99. During the current financial year, a total of 222 km of road length was made. A total of 13 bridges
were constructed and 18 more villages linked with road. |
Bus driver, conductor killed SHIMLA, Feb 12 The driver and conductor of a private bus were killed when it fell into a 300-metre gorge at Bandli near Chail, 50 km from here, last night. The bus (HP-13-4926) was returning after dropping a marriage party and there were no passenger on board when the accident occurred. The deceased have been
identified as Praveen Sood and Pappu. |
One dead as jeep falls into
gorge KANGRA, Feb 12 One person was killed and another seriously injured when a jeep in which they were travelling rolled down into a gorge at Gholan village near Dhraman today. Police sources said the jeep (HP-02-6616) rolled down due to poor visibility caused by heavy rain in the area. The dead was identified as Navin Chand, a supervisor in the PWD. The driver of the jeep, Kulbushan, was admitted to Dr R.P. Medical College Hospital, Dharamsala. |
