Shun communalism: Governor KAITHAL, Jan 26 (UNI) Haryana Governor Mahabir Prasad today urged the citizens to rise above narrow castiest and communal considerations and dedicate themselves to the great task of nation building. The Governor was addressing a large gathering after hoisting the national flag at a state level function of Republic Day celebrations here. He asked the people to utilise the weapon of literacy to curb the menace of population explosion and poverty. The Governor stressed on the women's education so as to make India more strong and prosperous. Reminding the people of the supreme sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, he said the people of Haryana too had played a significant role in the fredom struggle and later on in reconstruction of the country. He also paid his tributes to martyrs of the Kargil opertion. The Governor appreciated the concerted efforts of farmers and industrialists of Haryana who had contributed immensely to set many national records in the fields of agricultural and industrial products. The Governor said, ''We are celebrating the golden jubilee of our republic, so it is high time to resolve for providing primary education to every child to remove untouchability and to establish a regim of strong secularism and universal brotherhood, fraternity and social justice." The Governor took salute to a march past by Haryana armed police, Haryana district police, home guards, NCC, scouts and girl guides and students. He presented the state level bravery awards to four children. The awardees are Master Sunil of village Belwal in Panchkula district, Master Mahesh Tanwar of village Majesar in Faridabad district, Master Deepak of Bhiwani. The fourth award was given posthumously to Parvender Kumar of village Kemala in Mahendergarh district who saved the lives of two drowning children at the cost of his own life. His parents received this award which consisted of a cash award and a citation from the Governor. As many as 14 tableaux depicting various developmental activities such as education, health, transports, social welfare, agriculture and industries were also presented on this occasion. The tableaux of the Forest department, the Agriculture department and sugar mills, Kaitha,l were adjudged first, second and third, respectively. It was announced on
behalf of the Governor that a grant of Rs 25,000 from his
discretionary fund would be given for all the
participating school children for sweets, besides one day
holiday for all schools of Kaithal. |
Work on Panipat refinery expansion beings PANIPAT, Jan 26 (PTI) Work on expansion of Indian Oil's Panipat refinery from the present capacity of six million metric tonnes per annum (mmtpa) to 12 mmtpa at an estimated cost of Rs 3365 crores has commenced. The expansion project is slated for completion in about 30 months. All efforts are being made to ensure that even after the expansion, the environmental norms with respect to emissions and zero effluent discharge are not changed. Other projects such as petro-chemical project and joint venture power project are also in various stages of implementation, according to Surinder Singh Saini, Ed, Panipat refinery. He was addressing the Republic Day celebrations here on Wednesday. Earlier, Saini unfurled the Tricolour and took the salute from the CISF jawans and school platoons, a Panipat refinery release said here today. Referring to Indian Oil, Saini said, in this fiscal year, Indian Oil has set target of Rs 77,000 crores turnover with a profit of over Rs 2500 crores. Indian Oil is planning major investments in the coming years alongwith the refinery sector to the tune of Rs 60,000 crores in the 9th and 10th plan. Focussing on Panipat refinery, S S Saini said that the year 1999 was the year of stabilisation of Panipat refinery. Major secondary processing units were commissioned and during the year 1999, 3.7 million metric tonnes of crude oil was processed. Production of ultra low sulphur diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) has started. With this production, the refinery has produced all the products slated for production in the design of the refinery, he said. In the direction of quality upgradation of petrol, Saini said detail feasibility report proposals have already started for the project of petrol quality improvements to limit benzene to 1.0 per cent meeting norms as per the international quality standards. The cost of the project of quality upgradation of petrol is about Rs 340 crores, he said. On the quality of petroleum products and environment management, Saini said that Panipat refinery is gearing up to obtain ISO 9002/14001 certification of international standards. All the work related to
the system and other areas are almost complete and it is
hoped that international certification will be obtained
in the coming month, he said. |
Haryana CPS resigns to contest Assembly poll KAITHAL, Jan 26 (PTI) Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary Jaswinder Singh today resigned from his post in order to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state. This was stated by Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala while talking to newsmen at a functioned organised here this evening on the occasion of Republic Day. Mr Chautala said that Singh had resigned on moral grounds as he would be the INLD candidate from Pehowa. He said that four candidates, including he himself, would file their papers on the opening day of filing of nomination papers tomorrow for the February 22 Assembly poll. Mr Chautala said that he would file his papers from Rori, Sitaram from Dabwali, Bhagi Ram from Ellenabad and Vidya Veniwal from Darba. Answering a question, he
said that the talks with the BJP on seat sharing were in
the final rounds and a decision was expected soon.The
INLD manifesto would be released on February 1, he added. |
Haryana nominations to commence tomorrow CHANDIGARH, Jan 26 (PTI) The process of filing of nomination papers for the February 22 Assembly elections in Haryana would commence tomorrow following issuance of notification after midnight tonight. An official spokesman said that nomination papers for the 90 Assembly constituencies would be accepted by the returning officers till February 3. Nominations would be scrutinised on February 4 while February 7 is the last date of withdrawals. About 1.11 crore voters would seal the fate of contestants on February 22 while counting would take place three days later. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be used for the first time in 45 constituencies. The state would have elections about 15 months before schedule as the tenure of the assembly constituted in 1996 was to last till may next year. Mr Om Parkash Chautala, who become Chief Minister last year after the exit of Bansi Lal following the defection of 17 of the 34 HVP MLAs, decided to hold elections before schedule. The main contestants would be from INLD, HVP, BJP, Congress and BSP. While INLD and BJP are still holding consultations to decide seat sharing, the other parties, including the congress, are expected to contest on their own. The partywise break-up of the house in 90 was HVP-35, BJP-11, Haryana Lok Dal 22, Congress 12 and Independents 10. The political events
later resulted in a change in house set-up which at the
time of dissolution was HLD 39, HVP 18, BJP 10, Congress
12, Independents 10 and one MLA without voting right due
to a court case |
