floats war widow fund CHANDIGARH, June 13 The Haryana Government has decided to create a war widow fund. The Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, will be the first to contribute a month's salary towards the fund. This was disclosed by Mr Bansi Lal himself while talking to mediapersons at the inaugural ceremony of a new wing of the PWD rest house at Ambala today. He announced that a job would also be provided to a member of a bereaved family. He appealed to the public to contribute generously towards this fund as the money so collected could be spent on the welfare of war widows and their families. The government had already contributed a sum of Rs 5 lakh to the Command Hospital, Chandimandir, for the treatment of war heroes. It had also enhanced the ex-gratia amount for the commissioned officers from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh for JCOs from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1.50 lakh and for other ranks from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh. The Chief Minister criticised the Opposition leaders for drawing mileage out of false propaganda that he was not visiting homes of the martyrs. He had better knowledge and acquaintance of the situation than his opponents. Asked to comment on the Kargil situation, he said this was a breach of faith and confidence, and it was sheer treachery on the part of Pakistan. On the one hand it was extending the hand of friendship and on the other it continued to exploit the situation behind the scene. Mr Bansi Lal later visited Kanespur and Panchkula to sympathise with the families of the soldiers who had made the supreme sacrifice while fighting in the Kargil-Dras sector. Answering a question he said there was harmony between the HVP and the BJP, the two coalition partners. There was no question of any loss of faith in his leadership. Mr Bansi Lal announced
that an auditorium would be built at Ambala in the memory
of Guru Gobind Singh as part of tercentenary celebrations
of the birth of Khalsa in the state, provided getting
financial aid from the union government. |
Employees
denied new scales ROHTAK, June 13 More than 50,000 employees of various corporations and boards in Haryana have been deprived of the benefit of the Fifth Pay Commission report by the state government. According to sources, these employees serving in municipalities, Hafed, MITC, Harijan Kalyan Nigam and DRDA have been drawing salaries as per the scales old, with a Rs 1000-3000 loss to each employee per month. Mr Dhara Singh, President of the Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh, alleges that the claim of Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal in this connection is a "pack of lies". In a statement here today he claimed more than 50,000 employees in the state had not got any benefit from the Pay Commission report. He said their organisation had appealed to the Chief Minister to implement the recommendations of the revised pay package to these semi-government employees but to no avail. He said government employees would hold a protest march with black flags on July 7 throughout the state in protest against the "anti-employee" policy of the government. He said the state government has not been paying them house rent, medical allowance and other allowances on the Central Government pattern. There was resentment among the employees over the "untimely" transfer of 24 employees of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam posted at Faridabad, Pehowa and Kurukshetra. The employees were also unhappy with the style of functioning of the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister wanted "confrontation" between the people and the employees by misleading the former regarding various facts. Mr Dhara Singh alleged that power theft had been going on in the state on a large scale. He demanded the government should come out with a "white paper" on the actual use of power by politicians, bureaucrats and influential persons in the state and payment of bills by them. The employee leader
demanded reinstatement of 1700 dismissed HVPN employees
and 34 nurses and 1000 suspended employees and also
sought withdrawal of ESMA cases pending in various courts
of the state against the employees. |
Row over
martyr's park ROHTAK: While the brave soldiers of the Indian Army have been engaged in defending the borders of the country, without caring for their lives and families, some people are out to undermine their serve to serve their vested interests. A glaring example of such a mentality is at work here. A park in Jagdish Colony was dedicated by the district administration in 1996 to a soldier, who laid down his life fighting terrorists in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir in February 1996. Certain persons with the help of politically influential people want to change the name of the park. A spokesman for the Bhootpurva Ardhsainik Kalyankari Sanghthan, which played a vital role in getting the park named as Shahid Dharamvir Nehra Park, alleged that a move was afoot to inscribe "Jagdish Rai Park" on the main gate to be constructed soon. The local Municipal Council is looking after the development of the park. The sangthan has written a letter to the Executive Officer of the council expressing concern over such a 'move'. Demanding that the park be named after Shahid Dharamvir Nehra, the Sangthan has threatened to launch an agitation, if the name was changed. The sanghthan and the local residents of the colony through a memorandum have reminded that the park was named by the district administration after a resolution was passed by the council on April 9,1996. The foundation stone of the park was laid by the then Deputy Commissioner, Mr T.V.S.N. Prasad on May 11, 1996. It is alleged that some anti-social elements, who had political backing demolished the foundation stone on August 16, 1998. While no one was arrested in this connection, the residents of the colony organised a kar seva and repaired the foundation stone. The Ardh Sainik Kalyankari Sanghthan has sent a communication to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister in this regard. The sanghthan has claimed that any attempt to change the name of the park would only lower the morale of the defence personnel and their families in Rohtak and Jhajjar district, where a larger number of families have their members in the armed forces. The late Dharambir Nehra
was a constable in the 29th BN of the Border Security
Force, and he had sacrificed his life on February 6,
1996, fighting insurgents in the Doda area. He hailed
from Gudha village then in Rohtak district. |
Selja's
charge against Bansi FATEHABAD, June 13 A former union minister and AICC secretary, Miss Selja, has alleged that the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, has made a mockery of the democratic system by re-inducting in his ministry, a person who had been sacked from the Cabinet on corruption charges only a few months ago. She was speaking to reporters at Ratia today. She had gone there to address a workers' meeting in connection with the campaign for the Sirsa parliamentary constituency. The Chief Minister, she said, had been going out of the way in his efforts to buy peace with dissidents and in the process had made the government an object of ridicule. She said the Chief Minister should resign as all the administrative works in the state had come to a standstill due to the infighting between the HVP and the BJP. She said people were now looking towards the Congress as no other party had been able to give a stable government. She said they were in favour of Mrs Sonia Gandhi as the next Prime Minister. The results of the Goa Assembly elections had proved her point, she added. Denying any rift in the state Congress, she said the party would contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha poll, as a united party and would come to power at the Centre with a two-thirds majority. Commenting on the reported statement of the former Chief Minister, Mr Bhajan Lal that in case she (Miss Selja) wanted to win the next election from Sirsa, she would have to submit to his authority, the former minister said that any Congressman who wanted to win would have to submit himself to the authority of Mrs Sonia Gandhi. In reply to a question, she said that no association named the Sonia Gandhi Youth Federation had any link with the Congress. The AICC secretary welcomed the action against infiltrators but alleged the situation had arisen due to the failure of the intelligence agencies. She said the Prime Minister must clarify his position in this regard. Later, addressing party
workers in Aggarwal Dharamshala, Miss Selja called upon
them to forget their differences and work for the victory
of the party. |
