FATEHGARH SAHIB
Suspension demanded:
The District Primary Teachers' Association has demanded the immediate suspension of Mr Gurmeet Singh, a clerk in the Block Primary Education Office, Sirhind-I, as he had been arrested on a charge of taking bribe.

FEROZEPORE
Rally:
College teachers of Ferozepore, Jalalabad and Dharamkot, on Monday, held a protest rally at the RSD college here. Addressing the rally, the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) President, Mr S.S Hundal, and the Vice-President, Mr Sukhpal Singh, condemned the Punjab Government for lowering the retirement age from 60 to 55 years. They demanded implementation of the pension gratuity scheme, revised payscales for unaided colleges, parity in the scales of DPI and librarians and implementation of enhanced allowances.

LUDHIANA
Pension:
The Northern Railway Pensioners Welfare Association has urged the Railway Ministry to make amendments in the condition of depositing two months' pension in advance for getting treatment at the OPD of the Railway Hospital. They have requested the ministry to deduct Rs 30 every month instead. It has demanded a medical allowance of Rs 100 per month for those who retired before January 1996.
Ludhiana Club:

MOGA
Inquiry demanded:
Residents of Alamwala Kalan village under Baghapurana police station along with the district Bharatiya Kisan Union president, Mr Hardev Singh and the general secretary, Mr Pritam Singh, met SSP, Shard Chuhan and the Deputy Commissioner, Mr K.B.S Sidhu, and asked them to take stern action against Sub-Inspector Jang Singh who had allegedly beaten Nachhatar Singh naib- subedar, under the influence of liquor.

SAMRALA
Blood donation:
Employees of the Punjab State Electricity Board, Khanna circle and Samrala division, jointly organised a blood donation camp for Kargil soldiers at Khanna. Ninety units of blood were donated.

SANGRUR
Caught:
Manohar Singh, Inspector, Weight and Measures Department, was caught red-handed on Monday by Mr Mandeep Singh Sidhu, DSP, (Vigilance) while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from Mr Jasbir Singh Grewal of Gharachon village.

Assailed: Mr Sandeep Singh and Dr O.P. Verma on Tuesday assailed the former local MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain, for getting a businessman with no technical background appointed the Chairman of Board of Governors of technical Teachers Training Institute. They wanted that some technically qualified person should have been made the Chairman.
Workers' union: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Chandigarh Workcharge and Daily Wage Workers Union: Chairman — Mr Kulbir Singh; President — Mr Hazura Singh; Vice-Presidents — Mr Phool Singh and Mr Kapoor; General Secretary — Mr Ramesh Chander; and Cashier — Mr Ravi Kumar.
Shifted: The office of the Industrial Tribunal and Labour Court of the Union Territory of Chandigarh has been shifted from Sector 17 to the second floor of the Press Depot Building in Sector 18. This was officially announced on Tuesday.
Water supply: The residents of Sector 39-D on Tuesday complained of acute shortage of drinking water in the area for the past several days. They alleged that the water supply only to the houses of bureaucrats and politicians in the sector was uninterrupted.

BHIWANI
Patients examined:
The Giriraj Jagriti Mission organised a free medical camp at its centre on the Court Road here on Monday. The camp was inaugurated by Dr K.K Garg, Civil Surgeon. About 560 patients suffering from various diseases were examined at the camp.

FARIDABAD
Arrested:
The police has arrested an eight-member inter state gang of car lifters and recovered 13 stolen vehicles from their possession, according to the SP, Mr Mohammed Aquil.

REWARI
Office-bearers:

KALKA
Surprise check:
The secretary of the local municipal committee Mr Rameshwar Das, has said that a surprise check was conducted in the Transport area and a trader found unloading a tobacco bag from a truck was fined Rs 27,221 for evading octroi.

SIRSA
Camp:
Dr Dharamveer, Commissioner, Hisar division, while addressing a gathering at a camp for the handicapped organised here on Sunday said service to the poor, the needy, and the handicapped was true service to the nation. He distributed goods worth Rs 4 lakh among the needy.
Medical camp:
A two day's public awareness-cum-medical check-up camp organised by Dr V.P Goyal of Holy Nursing Home, in association with Escorts Hospital, New Delhi, concluded here on Sunday. About 500 patients were examined.

SONEPAT
Protest:
Residents of Sikka Colony and some other areas blocked the traffic on the Sonepat-Bahalgarh road on Monday to protest against the non-supply of electricity since Saturday. They also shouted slogans against the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam and the Bansi Lal's Government.
Manhunt:
The Gohana police on Monday recovered the decomposed body of a woman near a brick kiln at Khanpur Kalan village, about 30 km from here. The police has sent the body to Medical College Hospital at Rohtak for the post-mortem examination.
