The Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund of Japan has provided a loan of Rs 700 crore for the project. The project comprises two gas turbines each of 143MW and one of steam of 146MW, totalling 432MW. Natural gas which would be supplied by the Gas Corporation of India through its pipeline already in existence to run the turbines. The exhaust gas which has sufficient heat will be circulated through the recovery steam generators to run the steam turbine. The entire power generated from the Mujedi project would be supplied to Haryana which would make the state power surplus. Mr Bansi Lal, Chief Minister, who is taking keen interest in the project is closely monitoring the progress of the works. Mr Dubey said that no effort was being spared to improve the socio-economic status of the people whose land had been acquired for the project. Various community development works digging of tubewells, laying of roads, construction of school and hospital buildings in Mujedi had been undertaken by the NTPC. Various income generating schemes were also being offered to the villagers. The foundation stone of

Woes of Rohtak farmers ROHTAK, Jan 31 Not having received compensation for the loss of crops, inability to sow rabi crops due to water-logging in fields and notices for repayment of the cooperative loans has added to the woes of residents of village Bau-Akbarpur near here. Mr Joginder Singh Balhara, Vice-President, Rohtak Block Samiti, says the government has not paid any compensation for the loss of crops suffered by the farmers due to un-seasonal rain last year. The district administration has failed to drain out water from the fields as a result the farmers have not been able to sow rabi crops. The government had last year announced to defer the recovery of cooperative loans but, the district authorities were demanding repayment of the loan amount. He has asked the government to clarify its stand on the issues of loans and payment of compensation for the loss of crops due to natural calamities. Mr Man Singh Balhara of the Gram Sudhar Samiti said that there were many farmers whose crops had been damaged year after year due to floods. These families were on the verge of starvation. Most of these families were even unable to pay the tuition fees of their wards, both of them said. They said that a Central team had visited the village on October 27, 1988, to assess the loss to the crops caused by un-seasonal rains. The revenue officials had also conducted 'girdawri' of crops but so far no compensation has been paid to the affected farmers. Mr Joginder Singh and Mr Man Singh urged the Haryana Government to introduce the agricultural insurance scheme. Pending which it should provide seeds, fertilisers and pesticides at the half the price to farmers. The state Lok Dal President, Mr Om Parkash Beri, has said that the farmers, who were unable to repay the cooperative loans, were facing legal action under Section 67 of the Haryana Land Revenue Act and warrants were being issued to auction their agricultural land. He said that flood water was still standing in the fields in Narwana, Uchana, Julana, Hansi, Narnaund and Gohana areas. Because of stagnation of flood waters the farmers in Madina, Kharkhara, Ajaib, Bharain, Girnawathi, Lakhan Majra, Mokhra and Bau-Akbarpur have not been able to reap the sugarcane crop whereas the crushing season was near close. Because of water-logging the farmers in Bisahan, Dharana, Backra, Beri, Dubaldhan, Achhej-Paharipur, Jahajgarh and Palra have virtually become landless. All these villages are situated along the JLN canal. The Lok Dal leader said
that the rabi crop has been sown over two lakh acre in
the state. Wheat was sown late over six lakh acre and
because of dampness in the sub-soil, weeds have come up
in these fields, he said. |

The order said that before his release the prisoner shall furnish to the satisfaction of the District Magistrate concerned for the condition of keeping peace and good behaviour and surrendering when so desired by the Haryana Governor during the unexpired periods of his sentence, two bonds one for Rs 1,00,000 to be executed by the prisoner and the other by two sureties in the like amount. The sum of the each of the bonds shall stand forfeited to the Haryana Government in case of breach of any condition of the bond. Siriyansh Kumar Jain was convicted in the Krishan Kumar Khandewala murder case. The Supreme Court had set aside the acquittal of Jain and Ram Nath Bhumbla and an order of conviction and sentence was passed against the two on December 10 last year. However, Jain tendered a mercy appeal to the state Governor. On October 13, 1987 Krishan Kumar Khandewala was shot dead just a few hours before the election of the President of Hansi Municipal Committee and he was one of the aspirants for the post. The District Sessions Judge had awarded life sentence to five persons P.K.Chaudhry, Ram Nath Bhumbla, Siriyansh Kumar Jain, Krishan Jakhar and Gurvinder. statement released to the press here today, Mr Satyapal
