Invitation:
Dr Shivinder Singh Sandhu, orthopaedic surgeon, has been invited by the International Fracture Management to deliver a lecture at Davos, Switzerland, on August 20.

FAZILKA
Woman killed:
Maya Bai, a resident of Sajrana village, was hit by a car on the Fazilka-Abohar road on Sunday. She was admitted to the local Civil Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.

Camp: The local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad, has organised a hepatitis-B vaccination camp. According to Mr Niwas Bihani, chairman of the camp, as many as 1530 persons, including, children were vaccinated at subsidised rate.

HOSHIARPUR
Security arrangements:
Mr R.P. Mittal, SSP, on Tuesday said that 51 of the 782 polling booths had been identified as hyper-sensitive and 147 as sensitive in the district. He said in order to ensure fair and free polling special security arrangements had been made at sensitive polling station in rural areas.

LUDHIANA
Elected:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Punjab Colonisers and Builders Association: chairman — Mr Y.P. S.Bhalla; co-chairman — Mr Anil Chopra; president — Mr K.L. Chhabra; vice-president — Mr Kulwant Singh; secretary — Mr H.S. Lamba; and cashier — Mr G.S. Bansal.

MOGA
Fine imposed:
The PSEB has imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on a farmer Babu Singh of a village falling under the Baghapurana police station in the district, for allegedly running a tubewell when the voltage was low. According to reports, the Board has directed the farmers not to use tubewell during low voltage.

Two held: The Baghapurana police has arrested Ranjodh Singh and Malkiat Singh on a charge of stealing a car. The police also recovered a Maruti car from their possession, Dr Sharad Chauhan, SSP, said here on Monday.

Roads construction: The Punjab Government directed the PWD Department on Monday to construct roads connecting Kaleka village with Baghapurana and Bhekha village with Langeana village in the district. This was announced by the Chief Minister while addressing a meeting at Baghapurana.

PATIALA
Plea:
The PSEB Headquarters Offices Employees Association has demanded the removal of stagnation in the Language Office. Mr Maghar Singh, president of the association, said the PSEB had been concentrating on stagnation of other employees of the Board while ignoring the Language Department.

Kargil donation: Seven children — Saurabh, Gaurav, Jatin, Puneet, Sifa and Avneet — presented a demand draft for Rs 2,223, as donation to the Army Central Welfare Fund, to the Adviser to the Administrator, Mrs Vineeta Rai, here on Tuesday. They collected the money by going door to door.

BHIWANI
Poll arrangements:
The Election Commissioner, Mr J.M Lyngdoh, directed the election officers here on Tuesday that till the completion of the election process there should be complete observation of the election code of conduct. He was here to review the arrangements made by the authorities for conducting the elections in a free and fair manner.

SONEPAT
Murder:
Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Nangal Kalan village, was killed when miscreants attacked him with sharp-edged weapons at his house on Monday. He was admitted to Medical College and Hospital, Rohtak, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Suicide: Pooja allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at her house at Sector 14, a residential colony of HUDA, here on Saturday. The cause of the suicide is not known.

Demand: The district unit of the Plastic Manufacturers and Traders Association has demanded the withdrawal of ban on the use of polythene bags made of recycled plastic. This was decided at a convention of the association held here on Tuesday, according to Mr S.K. Saluja, president of the association.top

Strike ends:
Students of the local Government Postgraduate College ended their 12-day-old relay fast on Monday following the acceptance of their demands.

JAWALAMUKHI
Electrocuted:
Purshotam Lal (45), an employee of the electricity board, was electrocuted at Haripur village, near here, while repairing power supply on Tuesday. He was rushed to the PGI, Chandigarh, where he succumbed to his injuries. In another incident, a 28-year-old Tibetan woman died in mysterious circumstances at McLeodganj on Monday. According to the SSP, Mr K.C. Sadyal, the woman identified as Samten.
