Blood bank
A well-equipped blood bank was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, Narinderjit Singh at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital on Thursday. A blood donation camp was also organised by students of Medical College on the occasion. During the camp more than 25 students donated blood.

Computerised
The district Election Office was declared fully computerised on Thursday. District Election Officer S.R. Lidhar inaugurated the computer room of the office here. He said the voters' list of the district would soon be computerised.

Announced
The Punjab Government will spend Rs 8.26 crore on the development of this district during this year, Mr Manoranjan Kalia, Health Minister, said at a meeting of the district Planning Board here on Thursday.

Telephone adalat
A telephone adalat was held in the office of the General Manager, Telecom, here on Wednesday. As many as 102 complaints out of 107 were redressed on the spot by the GMT, Mr Rakesh Kapur.

LUDHIANA

Gang busted
The city police claims to have busted a gang of car and scooter thieves with the arrest of three members of the gang, Mr Dinkar Gupta, SSP, said here on Thursday. The police also recovered three Maruti cars and seven scooters from them.
Rally
Employees of the Telecom Department staged a rally in front of the office of the General Manager in support of their demands which include implementation of the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission.

International award
Dr Shashi Kant Uppal has been awarded The Twentieth Century Award for Achievement for his contribution to English poetry. The award was given by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge.
Dental camp
The local Rotract Club will organise a free dental check-up camp at Sehke village on Saturday. Mrs Satwinder Kaur Dhaliwal, MP, will inaugurate the camp.
Office-bearers
The following have been elected office-bearers of the All-India State Bank of Patiala Employees Union, Malerkotla unit: president — Mr Pawan Gupta; vice-president — Mr Gurcharan Dass; secretary — Mr Sanjeev Verma; and treasurer —Mr Davinder Kumar.

Employees of the Telecom Department staged a gate rally on Thursday on the call of the National Federation of Telecom Employee to press their demands which include increase in bonus from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,500.

Extended
The IAS and Allied Services Coaching Centre, Punjabi University, has extended the date for admission to the PO (banking) coaching course till September 30, according to Dr G.S Bajwa, Director of the centre. He said the SC and ST candidates would be provided with free coaching and stipend as per rules.

Coaching classes
The Chandigarh circle of the Sikh Missionary College is organising coaching classes for needy and deserving students studying in class X and class XII at Sector 34 Gurdwara. A press note here on Friday said coaching was also being provided for CET and PMT entrance tests.

Plantation
As many as 100 saplings of different trees were planted by members of "Samridhi", a social organisation, during a function at Government College for Girls, Sector 42 on Thursday.
Demand
Residents of Sector 10 have objected to the functioning of a cooperative bank from a residential accommodation in the area. The affected residents in a representation to the Chief Minister said the cooperative bank functioning from house no 815 had become a source of nuisance for them.
Blood donation camp
As many as 150 defence personnel donated blood at a camp organised by the Lions and Lioness Club of Panchkula in coordination with the Punjab State branch of the Indian Red Cross Society at Air Force, Highgrounds in Chandigarh on Friday.

The Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immuno-haematology (ISBTI) will organise a three-day exhibition of pharmaceutical products, blood transfusion equipments, consumer durables and health products at Pinjore starting from November 6.

BHIWANI

Cases registered
As many as 400 cases have been registered against 234 consumers in different police stations in the district during the past eight months. This was disclosed by a spokesman of the administration here on Thursday.
Three sentenced
The District and Sessions Judge, Mr Pritam Pal, on Thursday awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 to three accused in what is known as the Pushpendra murder case. He was murdered during students' union election in 1993. Two other accused were acquitted on the benefit of the doubt.
Pesticides distributed
The local Horticulture Department has distributed pesticides and urea among 30 farmers of Chang village. The Additional Deputy Commissioner was also present on the occasion.
Function
The Shahid Club organised a function at Sanjarwas village on Thursday in memory of Baghdawat Singh. Several ministers were present on the occasion.

Technology park
The Deputy Commissioner has inaugurated a technology park constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 lakh. The park is a joint venture of the Building Centre, Gurgaon, and the Housing Development Institute, Rajasthan. The main purpose of the park is to educate the people, according to Mr Sudhir Rajpal, Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman of the centre.

Life imprisonment
Additional Sessions Judge C.R. Goyal on Thursday awarded life imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000 to three persons in a case of double murder committed in 1994 at Mundri village. However, the court acquitted two other accused in this case.

Milk prices
Resentment prevails among residents of this city against the rise in milk prices.They have urged the district authorities to check the rise in prices.

REWARI

Blood donation
A blood donation camp was organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Bawal, on Thursday. As many as 46 students donated blood.

Protest
Activists of the Haryana unit of the Socialist Unity Centre of India held a rally at the HUDA complex here on Thursday in protest against the economic policies of the BJP-led coalition government at the Centre and its failure to control the rise in prices of various commodities.
